kinda freaking out here, someone told me and now I have also read that if hair isnt sectioned and back combed right the dreads can grow flat dispite good palm rolling they won't roll like back combed?

I backcombed about 60% of mine and at first they were all flat but are finally starting to round so I don't think it really depends on your method.

neverr palm rolled and none of mine are round and wouldnt want em round..how boring woulds that be?

flat dresads rarely stay flat though, sleeping on em rolls em unless u always lie in the exact same possition withouit moving the dresaads for months like in a coma then they will grow flat
but when u sleep they tend to mkove so the flattening force (weight of your head) isnt always on the same side
but they wont be perfectyly round either (thank god) they'kll have flatter spots lumpy sdpots and unique features that over palm rilling destroyes

Most of mine seem to be getting rounder, but there are a few that will probably be flattist, but theyre big fattys anyway so its all good.

I think if they're really distinctly wide but flat at the base they're not gonna grow out from the root quite as round as they might from a more even section. However, one of mine that's totally flat and thin at the root is still quite rounded further along.

My dreads are a mix of backcomb and neglect, some are just flat at the back (how i sleep), however most are just round, ehh

ok whew thanks guys, I do like them round so I'm glad that the personality they take when firming on their own really depends on the dread. Does ripping & tearing help much as they form to guide them into sectioning?

that's how you control the size. The bigger you want, the less ripping you do or vice versa.

i wouldent let em get too thick earluy on as they tend to thicken up on theyre own.. and congos are not easy to prevgent 100% no matter how much ya rip you will end up with as congo here and there evebntualy
a year from now if u think theyre too thin then thats the time to slack on the ripping and allow em to congo intentionaly

btw the only ones of mine thbat are really flatis the end of 1 or 2 and the middle of my thickest just a foiot and 1/2 is flattened with riunded above and below
the flat area makes a great stopper for beads

Makes sense. So is it a myth then that congo'ing can cause balding? Or is that in major bad Congo cases?

Never heard that one... Don't really see how it could cause balding anymore than dreads, since it's the same amount of hair, whether they are stuck together or not.

I think round vs. flat dreads depends on many factors... but how they initially formed (natural, neglect, backcombed, etc) is not one of them. In fact, I'm often complimented on the roundness of my dreads, and they formed that way naturally. Your friend or whoever doesn't know what he/she's talking about!

As far as congos causing baldness... hair pulled too tight at the scalp can permanently destroy hair follicles and cause hair loss (ever see older women who have had their hair in tight braids for decades? Case in point.) I wouldn't let my dreads pull together to the point of feeling tight and uncomfortable... although they never congo anyway, so I'm far from being the expert of congos!

if the congo is pulling so much that it hurts than yeah it will cause a bald spot
