We don't possess the ability to destroy the planet, just all the life that lives on it. That was supposed to be reassuring, although I can't remember why.

its funny because as of now, we waste more petroleum and other crap making these electric cars than we do on our gas and diesel cars. take Japanese hybrid cars for example. the chemicals for the battery are mined in one country, those raw materials are shipped to a plant in another country where they are processed and made into batteries and whatever other parts, then they are shipped again to the assembly plant where they are put into the car, then the car its self is shipped to different countries all over the world.

The level of ignorance on this thread is staggering. Are you telling me that it's a waste of petroleum to make electric cars, because the materials to make it are in different areas? Do you think that making the gas guzzlers is somehow more localized? Is it illegal to think before you comment where you live?

i wish to e-voice my opinion

electric cars are only as clean as their energy source - i have the same argument about local trams.. everyones like 'yeahh! electric! its clean!' bollocks is it, that energy has prolly come from coal/oil plants, thus dirty

global warming.. im split. the earth has always had periods of global cooling/warming, just like every few million years the north & south poles switch. it may be possible that we're now in a period of global warming.. but how do we know that this just isnt the balancing out phase from the last ice age? so in reality, the earth isnt as warm as it should be if it was in balance, and one day we'll have proper global warming, and then therell be something to e-rant about.

also, rising sea levels. rubbish. the british isles is sinking, scotland first. why? because of the ice age. the ice came down, squished the land into the sea (cause its heavy/dense), and as the ice receeded the land is rising back up.. hence the apparent rising sea levels, but its just the land sinking

re gas & oil... theres plenty, stop fretting. however, that doesnt mean to say i fully endorse pumping it all up and using it. im all for 'green' energy, (just not the tidal thingy in the severn =]) there was a thing on the news a while ago about an african country in debt, and they were mining oil, but burning off the gas.. and the amount of gas they were burning could power their country for months and months.. i reckon more countries need oil and gas facilities, like a dual-fuel jobby

re cars. give me a 1980s square, non aerodynamic gas guzzling range rover anyday mate (oh wait, i already have one). or a chunky harley. mm yes.

    ALSO

the oil tankers.. 6 inches to a gallon or something? any wonder we're apparently low on oil? its all going to those bloody things..

Just once I'd like to see the human race rally behind doing what's right. Just once I'd like to see humanity reach its full potential. I have been reading these responses with such sadness in my heart. You all know damn well what our oil lust is doing to this planet, and you just don't care? 'I want what I want, and I don't care what happens' 'There's plenty of Oil' 'Global warming is a joke.' Where is your sense of responsibility? Where is your love? You sound like a bunch of two year olds. And now, you'll all find a way to put me down, because 'it's just the internet.' It's time for us all to grow up, because the hour is getting late...

idk. im all for electric cars aslong as they can put out power (which some can, just ... it only lasts like one charge then its a dead car.) but there is an electic car that is fast. idk what its called. and wtf is with all the weird car designs. now that they run on something else they have to look completely different!?!??!?! ok. like 2 of the cars posted look good the rest are just weird. let futuristic cars BECOME that look. like, keep comming up with models EVENTUALLY youll get a car of the future. STOP TRYING TO MAKE A CAR THAT YOU THINK LOOKS LIKE ITS FROM THE FUTURE!!!!

    horses... :beatdeadhorse5:

if electric cars have em then theyre ftw.

i wouldnt say its the oil lust thats messing up the planet, its people who want power & money, and see oil as that power and money, who are messing up the planet. theyre the people who could stop and/or change it all, theyre the ones who could turn around and say 'wait, we dont actually need to do this', but its not going to happen is it? because of the greed & wealth involved.

and there is plenty of oil, theres more than enough to sustain our needs for several centuries - but as i said before, i dont endorse it. as a species/race/whatever, we need to find other sustainable 'green' energy sources. i mean, i can see why its so useful etc, buuuuuttt, we could quite easily use other things to generate the same power

and why should i, as an individual, be responsible for other people? i do my own bit, i dont own a car, i walk most places or use mass transit, i recycle stuff, i compost stuff and grow my own food... if the majority of the worlds people dont want to do that, then go and e-rant at them

That is completely false. With the way our population is increasing we are going to run out of oil within the next 100 years, unless we tap into Alaska, etc.

I seriously think it's in the best interest of our planet for the sake of humanity and science, that we ignore the global warming hysteria. I have weighed out all scientific evidence provided to me, checked the source's credibility and weighed that into the equation, and I have concluded the earth is no more endangered by global warming that it is by its own natural cycles. Call me ignorant, stupid, 2 year old, whatever. I don't "believe" in global warming, I come to conclusions after reading evidence on both sides of the equation and it flat out doesn't make sense that we are cooking inside a C02 oven. If you want me to gather with rest of humanity, it better have a better agenda than global warming advocates...how about gathering for cleaner air, stopping deforestation, or helping starving people. But instead we gather because the planet's average temperature is changing and has been changing since the beginning of time? I don't think so. You can count me out.

Smelly is correct. The have been saying this for 50 years. If there is an illusion oil is running out it jacks up the price. No conspiracy theory here, just economics 101. If the supply is low, and demand and all time high, the price will follow. But in reality, you can't refute this as this part is fact from both sides, we are pumping more oil out of the ground than we have in human history. We are also consuming more oil on a global scale than ever before in history. We also have more stockpiles in human history. This doesn't add up. If we were running out of oil, production and refining would be slowed. (Hell they have slowed the refineries because they don't have anywhere to put the black stuff! And it was getting to cheap again, so they needed to do what they could to get the billions in profits back.) We literally have so much oil right now, we are running out of room to put it.
