Has anyone heard of doing this? I've tried toilet training my rabbit Sydney, but he always finds some where ELSE he'd rather crap... Under my bed for example... Does anyone have any suggestions? I really don't want to keep him locked up in a cage for the rest of his life... Thanks!
It's pretty easy to train a rabbit to use his cage for a bathroom...as long as it's on the floor where he can get to it easily... I don't know about training it to use the toilet though, I have never tried that.

well i dunno about rabbits, i'm SURE you can, becasue i trained my guinea pig.. just put a tray in the cage with some old ......ya know.. and pee-shaving or pee-hay. lol. then she will go there in most cases, and when you bring her out, just put the tray on the floor.

I have three rabbits and they all use their litter boxes pretty well. They'd be better if they were fixed and when they are a little older (over a year) but they are pretty good. Niblet always pees in his box. You have to remember that even a rabbit that is perfectly litter trained will still have stray poops. It's their nature. To encourage them to use the litter box you should put the box in the spot where they normally go. Keep all other areas free of poop. When you catch your bun going in another area gentle put her in her box. Don't scold them. When you clean it leave a few poops in there so they will know to go in there again. My buns love their litter box. They love to dig around in them. Fresh litter day is great! Now I have to sweep up litter that they spread all over! BTW don't use clumping cat litter it's quite dangerous for them as they always snack on everything and it will block in their system. Even if they don't eat it they will clean it off their feet and get it into their system that way. Good luck Saje.
We do that, and it works perfectly for Branwen not so good for Casey though. I'm sure personality comes into it; Branwen is a dignified princess of a rabbit, whilst Casey is aka hooligan. They use their litter tray as a couch/throne which is cute. We ran out of their normal litter and had to use staw instead. So they sat and happily munched that. Unfortunatly if Casey (and it must be him) has learnt to upturn the tray. Which he did last night. Very annoying but admirable in a way. It was soaking, so maybe he worked out that I'd change it.
Oh, I'm sure he does have it figured out. Do you have lots of toys to keep him busy? I give my buns empty yogurt/cottage cheese containers to toss around. Otherwise when the water is low they toss that! LOL Saje
They have some cat toys, a tenis ball, cardboard tubes filled with hay, little chew type things. Plenty of rabbit junk. Never tried giving them pots, thanks for the tip. Will probably be fun to watch. Ours don't toss their water bowl. It's pottery and quite heavy. They usually have a bottle anyway.
Well, my buns and cat share a water bowl. They can't toss one of them but the other they can and do. I love my buns. Saje
