Well, I've been doing a lot of biking lately (as usual) and I've come across several poppy gardens. I'm just wondering when to pick the pods? I heard it was once the petals fall off, but I just want to make sure. Also, how do I pick them? Do I cut the stem off, or just pull the pod off the stalk? Note : I'm not interested in cutting/scraping them, I just want to make me some PPT.
afaik anytime around the middle of summer once a) the petals have fallen off b) it hasn't rained in a while as for picking them, i'd cut them below the point where the stem ends and pod begins. i can't understand preferring the tea, though. also remember to ensure they are somniferum. there are some ornamental poppies with rather large pods as well.
Yeah they're oriental poppies which I've read are just as good as (if not better than) somniferum. And the reason I can't scrape them is because all the patches are right near main roads so standing there with a knife cutting poppy pods and then scraping the opium might look suspicious. I'd get a friend with a car to help me uproot then re-plant them but that's too much hassle. I'd rather just get the free high the easy way. Thanks for the info nesta... The flowers have been bloomed for about a week now and we have a week coming of nothing but sun (no rain) so I'll probably end up picking them sometime later next week. I'll let you all know how it goes! So far I'm just planning to bike up to them and cut them all off and throw em in my backpack real quick then ride away... Wish me luck.
I'm actually wondering if maybe doing it before all the flowers' petals fall off would be better because I'm probably not the only one seeing them... Is there a big difference in potency between flowered and post-flowered pods? I'd rather just do it once some of the flowers start losing their petals to be on the safe side.
Well, the weather isn't supposed to be how I first expected, supposed to get a big thunderstorm which is going to take all of tomorrow. I'm wondering if maybe I should go grab the pods tonight to be safe? I just need to have my question about when the pods are mature answered. All of the poppies have been flowered for about a week now, so should the pods be okay to pick by now?
my question is.. When is it safe to plant the Poppie? Its sort of a rainy season right now.. do poppies like morning light or evening sun? whats the best location to plant them..
Not to make you nervous Twizz, but are these totally out in the open? Like oh hi Twizz come pick me where so tasty! You don't think it's strange at all there's some random pods just growing some where? Well as you said your gonna do it at night seems like a good idea just seem's to good to be true.
Yeah well like I said, there's quite a few patches of pods all over the city. However, the ones I'm going to go for are right out in the open pretty much, they're right beside a house on a busy street. Which is why I plan on doing it at night. If you saw the area you'd have the same plan. There's a trail coming down behind the house, and there's tons of cover in case I have to hide in the bushes or whatever lol. I'm not so much worried about passers-by, mostly about the homeowner. What if it's some crazed oxy fiend? Then again, if someone really wanted to grow poppies and get fucked on them then why the hell would they grow it at the side of their house in plain view? Well either way, I'm going to be in and out in a flash around 2-3am so there shouldn't be any problems. 30% probability of thunderstorms tonight so I guess tonight is the night. Wish me luck! I'll let you all know how it goes. edit : dammit, it rained HARD for about 10-15 minutes so I'm not sure if it'll be a good time anymore... I heard I'm supposed to wait til it's been dry for a while so that the pods are stressed and producing more opium. But, it HAS been dry for about the past week so I don't think there should be much of a problem. I guess I'll just grab em and hope for the best.
