What is the exact reason you're a vegetarian?

I actually don't like the taste of meat - makes me sweat and feel all 'icky'... I also don't like the animal rights implications... If you ever visited an abatoir, you'd know...

the #1 reason is for my health. I feel bad for days after eating meat and it makes my body stink and I really don't like that.

Dont like meat, doesnt feel natural for me to eat it-no desire to eat carcasses or kill animals, my own philosophies, the environment, animal welfare, health
    (no particular order)

I think people who eat meat ought to have to hunt it down and kill it rather than have it so convenient to get.

If I ate meat I would want to hunt it. One of the reasons I became a girl scout when I was young is because I wanted to learn survival technique. I learned about edible plants in the wild and many other things. I wonder how many are truly grateful that a being died so they could eat? I would not want to eat meat with out feeling thankful.

I can tell you how and when I started in the Veggie Journey, but I cannot tell you the one reason today.
I've found that my best answer is , "it is my default."
I am a bit of a foodie, and I appreciate the flavor profile of many omni foods, therefore I try to replicate/approximate them in veg cuisine.
I'm aware of the AR side, the eco side, health, spiritual takes, etc, but it really is part of me. (even as I am in one of my why not be pesca thought flight patterns) I don't go pesca, because the smell from eating any flesh is incredibly obvious when it comes through pores (and I did an experiment a few years ago, and yes, the difference form barely lacto veg to chicken soup was gross.)

it's true that we don't need meat to survive, we can get all the nutrients from other sources, and just look at our teeth they weren't designed like that of a carnivore, thats evidence enough to me

hey, i usually hang out on the dreadlock forum lol but i've been a lacto/ovo veggie for about 3 1/2, 4 years now and am very much so wanting to go vegan.

i can't really explain why i originally went veggie, i love animals and i'm sure at the time it seemed like a 'cool' or 'neat' thing to do. now it's a part of me i'll never leave behind.

i AM a vegetarian because i have lived with omnivores, and their crap stinks. so bad. it would smell up the whole house. it literally smelt like death. mine, on the otherhand, and i've heard this from other veggie friends as well, has absolutely no odor. ever. it's awesome. honestly, that has to be a red flag, when your shit stinks and mine doesn't at all? seems like you're on a crap diet.
tmi? sorry, just being honest lol

b12 is a big problem with vegetarians and it can only be found through live sources so far. However, it depends on what u consider alive...I have researched and found that 100gr of clams has about 1600% of daily value of b12. This taken alone is more than enoughto last one for two -3 weeks of b12 rquirements, the main reason is because b12 gets stored.

I'm a vegetarian because it pissed other people off.

Also meat is a pretty inefficient way to feed a large number of people over the course of a life time.

Meat is great for people who lead intense life styles and I believe humans are fully capable of living on a meat diet, infact some will be more capable than others.

I don't believe that one should hunt a beast and eat it, because we live in a specialised and co-operative society where we exploit our abilities, someone will be better at killing animals than i and they deserve it as a living.

Apes are known to eat flesh, even canabalise flesh...to compare us to any natural species then they are a prime choice. But really we can only compare us to us and we eat meat, always have. infact we enjoy meat, lots of it. It would be an odd evolution to enjoy something that was not beneficial in some fundemental sense

My cat eats lotion. She loves it. You can't wear it around her because she will just lick the hell out of you. If you were to leave an open bottle, she would just straight eat the shit. It causes her to get sick. She will act all tired and then barf all over the place. Odd, I guess you say.

yes i agree, that is odd...while lotion might not be part of nature, evolution will sort that one out if she dies, for the species!

I became veg for health reasons at first. But now it's that plus for the environment and animal welfare.

What about the fact that we, in general, love fried foods, tons of fat, sugars? Or that people generally don't like veggies. Even if you are raised on good food, most still prefer the bad stuff. Shouldn't it be the other way around?
