Nick Griffin wins second seat in the North West ... two fascist MEPs funded by the EU, hundreds of thousands of votes for a white supremacist party. This is truly a dark day... http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2009/jun/07/european-elections-manchester-liverpool
I used many expletives on facebook but I will leave one sentiment here: Shit. Nick Slimeslimeslimeandgrime can fuck off tbh.
well, that in no suprise. here in the u.s.a. most of us yanks don't know shit about the e.u. on our "elitist" national radio system npr, (national public radio) they have been carrying one hell of a lot of reports, and programs, about what is going down with the e.u. i, was one of that very small minority of yanks, who has been watching this unfold with dread. my heart goes out to all of you over in the u.k. and e.u. it is predicted by the current trends, that the whole e.u. is about to make a turn hard to the right.
i was just reading this article. i can't say i'm too shocked by it, but am sad and disapointed all the same. i knew i hated Yorkshire for a reason, apart from the fact its not devon and everyones grumpy.
fuck indeed, man. still, its kinda gratifyin to see so many people comin' out and condemnig the bnp, so its good to know that theyre not takin' everyone in. it was kinda inevitable theyd get some seats, thats proportional representation for ya. but 3 outta 2000 isn't exactly massive. i'm still pretty optimistic, the majority of people seem to maintaining sanity fairly well. might boycott yorkshire puddings for a while tho
well I'm not surprised , on a bright note I think a lot of this is a protest vote after the labour party giving trillions to bankers and generally being as corrupt as hell personally, and getting us involved in wars over lies, oh and making us allies of torturers . its dangerous but Id say its labours fault , its a bit like when people first voted for thatcher a lot of that was because of the winter of discontent when you had strikes all the time and people not being buried , thatcher was anti immigration and right wing she wasnt racist like the national front sort of fascism lite and it was really just dislike for labour that turned people to vote for her , also people who were worried about immigration voted for her so she took potential national front voters . a lot will depend on what happens next and what the conservatives do , I havent really been keeping track of politics but I wouldnt be suprised to see the conservatives trying to be more anti immigration that may or may not work for them but would be a good tactic against the bnp
I keep forgetting that other forums arent this one and I cant talk about this stuff. I must just sit back and watch the Big Brother thread keep going strong Im glad this place is here
You have to look at the wider context of "protest votes". 1stly Yorkshire is VERY much a "defending its own territory" type of place.I've lived there. Britain ISN'T Europe. It isnt a "member state".And most British people have no intention of moving to Lithuania if Britain suffers a recession.Nor does it like the ideal of Poles halving British wages( or worse) in some sectors.Whilst its tolerant of devout religions like Islam, it has no intention of "meeting Extremism half way".Finally immigration levels ARE a topic for the electorate, not just multinationals who want to push down the wages of the working man/woman. I'm less than half British by blood. But there ARE "National" issues that have to be considered.Otherwise a "protest vote" can soon become a genuine allegiance.
