I am in full agreement with that. Got a minute? four runs now have died. mg was not included until I saw spotting on the first failed run four runs ago. I've seen the spots in the past and used Iron Star to fix. Iron star is discontinued. When i saw the spots again some 3 years later I used cal mag that i believed to be more potent, so I used minimal amounts. I agree less is better sometimes. the crop died early anyway. after a few failed runs I experimented with cal mag and when ever I get the spots cal mag cleared it up. i thought I was good to go but with full doses(no more) of cal mag. I feel it's too much cal mag for a good balance but I had no choice. So, what is wrong is that the plants are not growing without cal mag. Every time i try without it they spot then fry. Now it's like they are totally locked out of all nutrients. just like overdosing. Like I poisoned the water. So three times during veg and transition they spotted and cal mag fixed. Now that they are big and hungry i can't provide enough. I maxed the nutes this time for the first time in years and they did better. but they verged on overdose the whole time. i don't like to grow like that. less nutes with little or no mg added didn't work anymore. Something changed. It's possible i burnt them but i didn't see overdose symptoms, just deficiencies. it's not the water or the nutes. I don't see fungus anywhere. I've pretty much eliminated water, nutes, or fungus. The next is air. the only theory that fits the time frame of the occurrences is with when I let my father in law store paints , lacquers polyurethanes in the same building. He was evaporating the stuff just outside my ventilation intake. So, there was an issue there so let's see what happens. I did flush with ALLOT of ph correct water. I supplied them with a slight amount of grow formula but too little too late. What the hell they are kinda finishing anyway. N could only help. The water table is still alive but the leaves are doing the same thing and progressing fast. i dropped the nutes and , forgive me, added cal mag. I'm no newbee. i've done the real deals before. Just I never had to be scientific til now. Thanks for your feedback and advice. i take it to heart and follow what I can. I learn by this. Please keep you thinking cap on for me. i'll keep posting til they are all dead. And it will be all your fault. I jest. Peaceout
well, i still say flush it and run clean water for a day or so, since salts can block the plants uptake of nutrients if in excess. please post more pictures, so that we can see the extent of the problem, and possibly doublecheck your diagnosis.
lol, why did you quote me? i aint the one with dying plants. hell i havent grown in over a decade for that matter.. i just know what too much epsom salt will do to a plant..

I have four in there on flora Nova no additives. The flora nova plants are the same or slightly better than the water table. Same thing tho. The plant that has half dirt and was without symptoms has begun to show signs now. A first but a tell tale. i got us an undershot of a leaf where you can see the holes in it. Like there isn't enough green to go around. Any leaf in the light now has this. It's moving to lower leafs. Every day now the mango is 10 percent browner. The hairs on the mango are 40% red. Usually that means I have a day or two left. I'm even going to get my next vegging plants ready. I'm going to use half soil, half cocoa/perlite. it seems the soil provided a buffer and could buy me more time if this happens again. But we won't let that happen, will we? Thank dudes
RU sure they're not being burned by the lights being too close? The original pics looked like light burn......maybe!>)
according to Jorge's Growing Bible 1/4 strength water will remove more salts then will plain water. I Just read that. Hmmmm. I borrowed this book today. nothing for me yet. Other than if I have a problem, now is not a good time for it. Darn!
Just thought it was worth saying again as i know jack all about fert problems and was a good account of what happens. Sorry I'm completely stumped but If them leafs were on the bottom few only then i'd say that pretty normal for mid bloom.
not that I'm going to add epsom but, If i add epsom to my mix, Do i need to add more waer to get the ppm back to where I have them ? Or, Can I let the dang ppm run up some 30%? the last time I asked someone gave me a math equasion I didn't understand. Thanks
This had a good look at leaves and problems http://books.google.com/books?id=rn...=book_result&ct=result&resnum=6#PPA126-IA3,M1
All plants in the room dying again. I can't figure out why. Full report in the morning with pics. You'll be bummed. So this time i got the spots and couldn't stop em. Spayed epsome 2 days in a row. Skipped a day, today. regular nutes in the res. To provide enough nutes and mg I thing would have required an insane ppm. I read that big plants can take about 2 tsp per gallon and to mix with a complete nutrient. But how high can I go with ppm's? Epsom salt bumps the ppm up quite a bit. So I have water with 2 tsp epsom pr gal. then i added about 30% regular nuted water. Am i screwing up?
no more people to hold my hand here while my crop died for the 5th frkin time. This is no joke. I must have someone poisoning them. Can there be a way? i NEEEED TO FIGURE THIS OUT. For the record here are the latest pics.
Been, "The brand of nutes don’t seem to matter. The more nutes I have the longer it takes to develop the problem, but now my nutes are at the peak i can give em while the problem grows." I haven't been paying much attention to yer thread 'till now. Exactly what brand of nutes are you using and in what quantity, because the type and quantity does matter. Indoor gardening should be rather easy, I'm growing w/hydro ebb n flo and don't have the probs you seem to, and I don't even own a ph/ec/etc. meter. I believe the simpler the better, when ya get one crop right then get techy wit it!>)
About what nutrient matters, Yes they matter. I've been GH guy forever because it always had bite. It matters for sure. But with this problem all other nutes ie. FloraNova, advanced 2 part, Pura Vida. Didn't make a difference. Adding cal mag did but cal mag was a band aid. The plants now have stopped all forward nutrient activity but still have hydro-pressure. I'm folier feeding. I think the roots are still functional. I can see them in the water table and they look good. The N is retracting from the leaves rapidly. I'm going to go to a GH 1+1+1 with full cal mag as that's how i got them so big. I never used N in bud time before but I see no green being produced. I would rather have fluffy buds than shwag. I'll be all dead in a week or less if I base it on recent past failures. I've had many crops right and didn't change things. Something changed on me. I can only hope it's the toxic fumes theory. Thanks for helping.
most of my crops have experienced the yellowing/wilting of fan leaves towards the harvest. (however, this has been partly due to a cheap HPS bulb, and mild nitrogen overuse). I honestly dont know why you think its an issue of too little magnesium. YOU ARE USING TONS OF IT. stop using the magnesium, and see what happens. you have likelyused soo much it has either caused the roots to lock out some of the nutrient uptake, or its displaying effects of extreme overdose. STOP USING MAGNESIUM ADDITIVES, at least for more then 2 days (it takes that long just to flush the salts out, let alone show any effect)
