Many domesticated dogs do need humans to survive, and you admitted it yourself in the same post that this quote is from, by talking about how some of the breeds would cease to exist if they weren't cared for by humans. Your solution is to just throw them all out in the wild and let the weaker ones die, but that's not humane or fair in any way. And no, you can't negate the immorality of what you would be doing by chalking it up to natural selection or evolution. That's just a rationalization.
i was actually watching someonething on national geographic. and they were talking about dog domestication, and the diversity. They did an experiment where they took a normal domesticated dog, and had a cage in front of it. this cage had food inside, and the only way to get it out was with a humans help. They tried to get the food out, and then they immediately stopped and looked toward the owner for help. They then took a domesticated wolf. The wolf didn't look to the human, but tried to figure it out on its own. But there could be flaws in this. I know that pigs and livestock absolutely don't need humans, but I think it's starting to become nature for dogs to look to the owner
There were a few cases of cows and pigs surviving in the wild in herds, but in general... livestock can't survive without humans.
i shoot strays thank you very much. i have a working farm here. i have had my livestock fall victim to feral dogs more than once and i now have zero tolerance for them. if my great Pyrenees doesnt kill them,i will.. i dont see that as a bad thing anymore than i see humans that must rely on others to survive ceasing to exist a bad thing. the world is overpopulated as a whole anyway. to allow natural selection to once again run its course is a good idea in my opinion.. it wasnt a solution,it was a statement on what i feel domesticated animals are in reality.once again, they dont need humans for their species to survive.you all seem to be naive enough to think they do. then your using it as a justification to keep a pet. all i am saying is THEY DONT NEED YOU AS MUCH AS YOU THINK THEY DO! with some exceptions of course. sure some worthless breeds may need humans, but again we played god, fucked with evolution and created worthless animals to further clutter the earth. i dont see where those breeds ceasing to exist is a bad thing.. all this "humane treatment" of humans as well as animals has only served to overpopulate the earth and i personally see that as a detriment to future generations, not a compassionate way of being. feral hogs are VERY VERY common and a real problem in many areas of the country. yes they survive in the wild fine. cows are also more of a problem than you seem to believe. my uncle raised pit bulls for years and hired them out to take care of feral livestock that was destroying crops. many, many times the livestock were cows.

I heard that pigs actually become very instinctual very quickly after getting out of their owner's cages or what you have it. They're very smart and have a very wide variety of foods that they can eat, so it would be easier for them in the wild.
i looked into this when i was considering getting my cat. seeing as how he's a boy cat and without essential nutrients found only in animal products, they need some 75-100% meat in their food, they get UTIs and whatnot. from what i read on the all knowing interbutts, apparently dogs are good to go vegan and female cats need only a low ratio of meat in their diets? i'm not a vet though, i dunno, and the internet does this wicked thing called LYING ALL THE TIME. i think it really boils down to what is best for your pet's health and what you know you as a pet owner is capable of keeping up. i imagine if you fell off the veg wagon you put your pet on, got tired of cooking for him and just threw him back on food, it prob wouldn't turn out great. i also agree that if you're in it for animal rights you shouldn't domesticate animals. however, if you didn't take your dog in, who knows what shittery it would be in now?
