I have almost no faith left. I used to be all for God and shit but I think my eyes are opening and I'm leaving the dreams behind. I have come to think that it is all too perfect. God can do anything but you can't prove this cuz' you can't test God. I have also come too think that people belive because it sounds good. It makes it seem like we are less responsible and there is someone guiding us along. It makes it seem like eventually when we die everything will be good. many people that aren't afraid of death are under the belief that there is a great heaven awaiting them. Most people that are afraid of death are scared because the don't know what awaits them. I think christians are just so weak that they have to believe and when they stop believing, or hiding, they are really coming out of their shell. When people are saying "don't lose faith" they are really saying, "Get back in here, it's safe in here." I for one am almost completely out of my shell and I ask other s to come out with me. come out for a little while, decide if it is really that bad out here, in the real world. At least put one foot out and look around look back at the shell if you see cracks like me, join me and walk out of the shell it will be much less scary with others to back you up.
I always figured many 'believers' did so as it removed the responsibility for their actions from them...
What do I have to loose in believing in God? Nothing. It doesn't hurt my life to believe in Him. It doesnt hinder my daily actions to have faith in Him. It doesn't harm my family to read The Bible. It doesn't harm other people. Actualy, I see no problem with having faith in Christ. How has having faith affected your life? Now that you are "out of your shell" do you feel it is ok to lie, cheat, steal? Are you able to do things now that you couldn't before? I just don't see what you gain from not having faith. Give me a list of things you can do now that you couldn't before. From there I may be able to see what you are talking about or may be able to understand you. Until then, the only difference I see between you and I are Heaven and Hell. I like my shell.
Loosing Faith! It seemed you have already made your decision about things and now you want people to back up you because you are after all unsure. Don't go with the emotions, go with reality. I used to live in the "freedom" you are speaking of: freedom to think anything of anything (hadn't yet met God and truth), do what I wanted (in short timeline and concerning my desires; not in longer timeline and concerning my total wellbeing physically and spiritually). I met God when he took me out of my body in a rail way station when I argued against christians. He just said "I'm behind this mans words, who is behind your words?" And put me back in my body. There started a journey to the feet of Christ, and to get salvation and The Holy Spirit (when I say salvation and Holy Spirit, I'm not speaking them as a doctrines, but as experiences, which match with the description given them in the Bible). For me reality is this: I have experienced that without Christs saving work on the cross I would be lost. I have no peace before God if I'm honest about nyself and about God, unless I put my trust totally on the work Christ has done. If you think/experience you don't need God, then you think/experience that way. I just believe the reality does not support your thinking/experiencing if you face it as hard and true as it is. You need Christ, God shows you the meaning of life, so what is there to be ashamed of? Goodknights to you wishes Goodknights.
with all due respect, the answer to your question: TRUTH. beauty in truth, glory in wisdom, it is a disgrace to the dignity of the mind and soul to ever settle for anything less. shame for not recognizing the greatness of truth; never stand for blind security in its stead. may your mind be opened to the beauty in the world's possibilities, duck. there is never dishonour in allowing one's mind to pursue truth, whether or not it is ultimately found.
What truth are you talking about? What wisdom are you talking about? I have the truth of Jesus Christ. It has been proven Jesus Christ was here and did the miracles that are mentioned in The Bible. God grants me wisdom. It says in The Bible I need only ask for Gods' wisdom and He will give it to me. So what truth are you talking about? What wisdom are you talking about?
ok, ok... everyone here should check out huston smith's totally excellent book _why religion matters_
you summed it up very well... I believe we all have times of doubts and lack faith...but hes still there...I can feel his presence in my life..but youll only feel him as long as you decide you want him there...Gods always there, but he isnt gonna FORCE you to believe. I hope you can find your faith again.
The Truth that is. Being Christian will mean you believe the Bible, and too often, anything that seems contradictory to the Bible is automatically wrong. God's teachings lie in the universe around us, because God is always talking to us, even if we don't look. I don't believe that supreme truth can be bound by paper. Basically by shedding the skin of religion you can open up to the universe around you, and thereby open up to truth. You shouldn't worry, if what you believe is correct then she'll come back to Christianity before long. Quite frankly though I wouldn't put my hopes up if I were you. Blessings Sebbi P.S. If you argue by saying that you're book is the supreme truth, then you are proving my point.
Duck - Believe in whatever you want in life. Do whatever you want in life. Get as much out of life as you possibly can. Give as much back as you possibly can. But never give up your dreams. Blessings Sebbi
i've been out of my shell...then i met God and have a beautiful realtionship with him. That is why i kno he is the Truth. I hope you find teh place you are searching for. Roly.xxx
Sebbi, we are not talking about religion. We are talking about faith. The Bible is not a religion. It is a history book, it is education, it is morals, it is truth. The Bible has been proven as fact so many times. Through so many areas.
Archelogical proof, historic proof, prophetic proof, and not to mention the testimonies of those recorded in The Bible itself. Yes, it has been proven.
Faith and religion are used so interchangably these days. I have faith but not religion. On the Bible. I accept that as a historical document it has proven to be accurate. As a philosophical and theological scripture, it cannot be proven to be accurate. It is a completely subjective view that the Bible is accurate or not in this sense. Also it's not completely black and white, if it's right about one thing, it doesn't neccesarily mean that it's right about anything else. Blessings Sebbi
Is that your reason, cuz it couldn't hurt? Not good enough for me. I have faith, but I acknowledge I am weak, and a sinner. I do not believe the Bible has been proven historically accurate at all. The New Testament is full of very chimerical characters, except Pontius, and Herod. The only writer contemporary with the times to mention the story is Flavius Josephus, and some propose he wrote the gospels too. The old testament is even harder to pin down, though it appears that they have found evidence of Joseph of the multicolored coat. I am not saying I do not believe any of it happened, just that it is far from proven.
Duck I'm glad to see that you are giving this serious thought. I've always believed that God wants homage out of reason not out of fear or blind faith. May I make a suggestion? Read Mark and then Luke,John and Matthew. Take the time to get to know Jesus through prayer and His word. Keep an open mind and take the time to truly think things through. Faith is not just about believing that you'll go to heaven some day. Faith is a daily walk with God that gives strength for today and bright hope for tommorow. "Reach out your hand if your cup be empty. If your cup is full may it be again. Let it be known there is a fountain that was not made by the hands of men."
Hey man, I totally understand you. I was never a Christian, but I got interested in Hare Krishna philosophy and they worship God too, but they say that belief means nothing, cuz it can change. The point is to realize God, be in relationship with Him. I mean -I don't want to put down Christians down, but I don't see this in their eyes. I think they don't know much about God -they just believe. It's a good thing, but it's not fulfilling. Why so many Christian commit sins if their belief is so strong? Anyhow, check out our Hare Krishna thread -it's not a cult, sect, religion. Ít is very special and interesting thing. It is a science about God. Hare Krishnas are capable of explaining God. And it's fulfilling -I enjoy it -that's all. This is what it should be -joy. If u realize God, u should be happy and glow and you should be courageous and tolerant and compassionate. Not the other way around. Happiness and joy should be symptoms of your love to God. what do u think? let me know in Hare Krishna thread, ok?
Really?? OMG that's so totally cooool man, you own! So god is all-knowing, huh? Wow dude, then you must be all-knowing too! Tell me something then, tell me something no one knows but you and god! Tell me how many stars there are! Or better yet: predict the future for us! YEAH! Dude, tell me... tell me what will be the news headlines in Guatemala in two days! Tell me which trains will be delayed tomorrow! Okay, this has been a very immature reply but that's just to illustrate the ridiculousness of your statement that you can ask for god's wisdom ( which is supposedly ALL WISDOM ) and get it. I'm also VERY curious to how it's been proven that there was a Jesus Christ and that he performed miracles and that he was the son of god. Enlighten me. Duck, I wish you well on your quest no matter what your destination is.
