I think, in general, self righteous people are annoying but no ideas should be above criticism, especially ideas that fanatics often use to justify killing other people (e.g. religion).
Atheists in many ways are worse than religious fundamentalists. But atheism itself IS a religion based on dialectical materialism.
Absolutely. And it's every bit as dogmatic. Now it's one thing to be against religion, which is a MANMADE creation. I see religion as being cancerous. However, to shun the existence of anything higher is just as bad as believing in what the Bible says at face value. Most people cannot differentiate religion from spirituality, which is a shame. I can accept the fact there are some things I will never know, but at the same time I know truth comes more from looking within oneself than the teachings of some manmade religion.
I shun anything higher. To not believe in a god but believe in something higher than us, that is just a cop out. I hope I am not self-rightious when I dismiss peoples beliefs in God et all...but I feel it is just a paradigm that needs changing. I have thousands of years of religious and spiritual teaching and commonly held beliefs and so-called "truths" to battle...sometimes you need to be forceful in your language. Sellf-rightious? Okay, sure. I'll be honest. SUE ME.
atheism has been used by fanatics to justify killing people (church burnings) no, you don't want to be associated with those people guess what, most christians don't wanna be associated with the KKK, WBC, Crusades, Popes innocent (any of them) etc. we get lumped together all the time it's not the idea that people use to justify it, it's the fanatical lunatic.
But what is a "GOD"? A god is someone that lords over and rules people. That is a product of religion. What I believe in is a higher conscience that is behind the process of what I call creation, which is different from the creation referred to in the bible, which HIJACKED true creation. Looking within oneself and discovering truth proves to me (it doesn't matter what others believe) that life is simply more than matter, and that there is definitely something much higher than this material world based simply on one's PERCEIVED five sense reality/illusion. The fact that humans can care for one another, have compassion and THINK proves to me there is much more to it all.
Then why did communism make atheism mandatory for the masses, killing Christians and anyone else who believed in a higher presense? Communism and atheism have long went hand-in-hand. Marx's theories were based largely on the idea that there is no truth higher than that based in the material world, and that man was nothing more than flesh and bones and basically just a machine to be used and then discarded. Makes sense once you look at the number of lives taken under communism.
Some religious people would say that too. But GOD is supposedly what created everything and - apparently - left us to run our own business. So really he isn't lording over us at all but on the other hand could well be. It's open to interpretation. You mean a GOD, mate. Don't you? A higher conscience ? True creation? You'll have to expalin this further. We have more than five senses. Tapping into the others is ok. But lets not assign normal bodily functions to a higher being or higher conscience. There isn't anything higher than matter only self rationalisation, imo.
Dialectical materialism precedes Karl Marx. More like Democritus (also Zen and Nietzsche). Marx's analysis of capitalism and the Soviet experiment are not one and the same (though capitalism has killed way more). I will agree that the utopian part of Marx (really Hegel), "the end of history" and all that is kind of whack. And, is, in fact, not dialectical or materialist at all, but linear idealism. It's a shame that dialectical materialism and historical materialism are considered synonymous.
read "Acts" it encourages something very much akin to a theocratic communistic state. christianity as it is, very much a capitalist vogue thing christianity as it is written, less.
I agree with Nesta. Bigoted Atheists was one of my 'three things to put into Room 101' thing I did in English. I hate the fact that people seem to think it's okay for certain atheists to spend their day putting my beliefs down and me down for it. And I can't say a word in defence because then I'm preaching, because then I'm gettin holier than thou. And you know, I wouldn't WANT to say anything because I for one, do not judge people by what they believe, as far as God goes. [Hey, I'll judge a racist! ] I dont mind people saying there's no God, I mind people saying I'm stupid for choosing to believe in one. And as far as Christianity goes, if I didn't already have a religion and Nesta to worship, I'd probably be a Christian myself.
from theist, atheist, and agnostic viewpoints there are extremely compelling arguments against this idea. i don't buy it....but thats okay, i guess.
Not all godless ppl really give a shit what anyone else thinks. Nor do they all bother to bring it up. I'll leave it at that.
