I wasn't exactly sure where to put this thread, as I couldn't find a Sikh forum, and Sikhs are the only people religiously obliged to wear Turbans.
So I thought I'd get an Islamic perspective on this, as I know many Muslims wear turbans.

The other day I had just had a shower, so I was wearing my hair up in a towel (I have rather long hair). I was thinking 'wow, this is rather comfortable'. So I wondered, would you be offended if you saw a Zen Buddhist wearing a turban, just because he found it comfortable?

Many thanks to anyone who replies

Sikhs (as you mentioned) but also hindus wear turbans, as do some indigenous religons in indonesia (eg baduy). They took it from the muslims they came in contact with who in turn took the habit from the pagan arabs and persians. There is also reference to the turban in the old testamant/tanakh.

Realise there is nothing new under the sun, everything has been done before, so just like the aforementioned religous groups decided to adopt the Turban, there is nothing stopping you from doing the same.

With regards acceptance, just get enough people doing it and nobody could say anything. Just like the current trend of american and european university students now wearing the arab scarf/shemagh, which is more specific to muslims than the turban.

I say go for it :), then again maybe i wasnt your target audience

If this is really that comfy I might go ahead and wear it around campus
