Fjrenza you can be religios. I have no problem with you holding the views you do, But don't try and force them on the rest of us. If you wish to wage a war based on your views alone then do so, but don't ask my children and grandchildren to fight those wars for you. And don't ask for them to be held as a national standard. They aren't.

Gardener, let me assure you that i am a Christian who understands, to the deepest depths of my being, that you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink.

    Free will.

    Your choice.

My choice was that when i saw Truth, i just couldn't deny it.

What other folks do is by their choice, and i couldn't even begin to try to tell them how and what and why and all about living their lives. i lived a life that was so far out there, i daresay there isn't one commandment i haven't broken, at one time or another, including murder.

Oh! And the "Taking-His-Name-In-Vain" thing? i don't believe it means cursing, other than if it's an order to God to avenge yourself. i believe it concerns the peeps that call themselves Christians, and then use the precepts of Christianity against real Christians, in order to further their own vainglorious agenda. i actually didn't break that commandment, wonder of wonders.

When i type these posts, where i'm coming from is something it might be important for other folks to know about. IF they want to know more, they'll ask. But between now and then, THIS is where i'm coming from:

    in truth, as best i can discern it;

    in love, as best i can feel it;

    in generousity, as best i can afford it;

and in an attitude of friendliness, and willingness to truly try to understand where other's are coming from.

THAT's why my posts are laced with my faith ~ not as a red flag, waved in the face of an angry bull, but as a beacon (lighthouse?) for folks who just need a friend, that they KNOW won't sit in judgement of them, nor their actions, and will try to help.

    Nah, just noticin'.

Anyhoo, I lean quite a bit towards Spiritualism. And bet that's what you were a-meanin'... Being spiritual and being religious can be two totally different things...

I like the way the focus on Rumsfeld just disappeared after one day in the media!

Boy they are really covering up these illegal acts, aren't they? And I mean not just the gov't but the media too. They don't want to have to report about Christian propaganda starting the Iraq war... after all the media did their share of flag waving and fear mongering too.

Here's another take on how G.W. & Tony Blair both view the wars as fulfilling prophecies and God's will.

I have a feeling there will be more disclosures about 9-11 and the Iraq war to come.

Not the religious war you keep banging on about, no.
That is just madness of the first order, imo
I doubt if you made a clear and articulate post about your theory, many people would agree with you.
Actually, I dunno, maybe they would.

I think the problem here is too many people are seemingly coming from diffferent POVs and just agreeing: "This is a holy war".
Even if their POVs are not the same.
Because it has negative connotations and this war is all about negative connotations - for its critics.
It is a good tactic, even if I disagree with it.

‘I’m driven with a mission from God. God would tell me, “George, go and fight those terrorists in Afghanistan.” And I did, and then God would tell me, ‘George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq.’ And I did.”

This is Abbas's account in Arabic of what Bush said in English, written down by a note-taker in Arabic and then put back into English.
Something was deffinitly lost in translation.

I can agree that both Bush and Blair thought they were doing a "Christian" thing by freeing people from tyranny. If that was their desire...good on them. That doesn't mean I can agree Bush and Blair were on some sort of biblical crusade to gain access to holy lands blah blah blah etc etc etc.
Edit: And deffinitly not some war on Islam.

Blair (supposedly): Iraq too — was all part of the Christian battle; good should triumph over evil, making lives better.
    http://dissidentvoice.org/2009/05/go...-will-be-done/

That's not just a christian ideal...that is what most people want.

But, i'm still not convinced this is what actually informed Bush and Blairs dicision making process.
It was a vote (here) and that vote I doubt was a christian battle - or ideal - over real life politics.
Also in the US: H.J. Res. 114/S.J. Res. 45. The final vote in the House was 296-133.

If this IS a religious war..then it has unified both Muslims and Christians. :)

Personally, the question of this being a "Holy war" does not stack up.
    I'm only questioning that. :)

Can't possibly be fighting Islam because we are working with muslims to fight the greater enemy of Islamic extremists.

Can't be fighting "Iraq" because we are working with the Iraqi government.

Don't get me started on the biblical dimensions...as that is just absurd.

    Do, Odon.

    Go for it!

    It is absurd, as presented.

Come on, dude ~ let's get it on! ;)

Ok...I will, but please, while i'm gathering my thoughts, please explain why you agreed with my earlier post. It would help if the font was a little smaller. ;)

"A religious war is a war caused by religious differences. It can involve one state with an established religion against another state with a different religion or a different sect within the same religion, or a religiously motivated group attempting to spread its faith by violence, or to suppress another group because of its religious beliefs or practices."

Technically speaking we are in a religious war of sorts..
We are fighting religious people who want their version of religion to over-power another version. That is something I can agree on.

    Skip and others have said:
    Crusaders for your Jesus
    War against Iraq and ISLAM

We work with Muslims and other faiths to battle extremists.
    I'll repeat:
How can we be fighting Islam if we are fighting alongside muslims?
How can we be fighting Iraq if we are working with the Iraqi government?

It can be a truth that some people in certain administrations believe it is the christian thing to do...and it is on behalf of Jesus - kind of.
But the truth is, you could say that about WW2.
I'm sure Winston Churchill et all believed it was the christian thing to do too.
But you wouldn't call that a "Holy war" would you?
It is simply a truth that Bush is openly religious and Churchill wasn't...so it wouldn't be seen as a factor.

Plus more people would have described their daily activities including their faith.
    Now it is scorned upon.
You can't possibly talk about anything and also include your faith...as it is seen in the same way as this thread is postulating.

The religious aspect, imo, is purely the inspirational words of Jesus christ informing the very real decisions to take out evil people.
It could have quite easily been the inspirational words of Buddha..envoking a "just war"... or an athiest stating that it is the right thing to do because it is moraly the right thing to do (which it was, by the way).

I'm not calling this a "Holy War" for the simple fact it envokes talk of "crusades" and we are deffinitly not on a crusading mission.
The crusades are supposedly about gaining "holy land"...well Muslims control Iraq not us.
It is about fighting a faith on behalf of another faith.
We arn't doing that - as I'll repeat - we are working with Muslims.

I am possibly being a hypocrite...because I am including a religious aspect but rejecting it at the same time.
It would be a lot easier for those who think this a "Holy War" to explain themselves fully and clearly.
As then I can expalin why I disagree.

    Confusing isn't it.
