i got a detention for going to school bare foot..damn teachers..i just went to my locker to put on my sandles..i have yet to serve the stupid detention..

 

Ya oughta tell your parents and have them demand that the school shows some written paperwork that shows theres a rule requiring shoes, otherwise you dont have to do the detention because youre not breaking any rules. I wouldnt put up with BS from those people, they areint worth what they get paid for, if it wasnt for their damned unions theyd be outta a job cuz they suck at their work.

 

I did that once and my dean pulled out the handbook and it says that the state requires everyone to wear shoes in all public buildings. I dont know though...

 

for what its worth, teachers have o put up with a lot of shit alot of the time, and if they are looking out for your well being, then maybe we should give them a break. Yes there are two sides, but to say they arent worth what they ... get paid is fucking insulting! at least learn how to structure a debate before you slag off a whole profession. You may have issues with some teachers, it doesnt mean you either have the right to insult them all OR that you are in the right... you may be wrong.. ever thought of that one!? Oh no... of course you havent... cos you probably think your always right!

I cant believe some of the arguments I read in here.. youd nearly think you were all being burned at he steak for what you do.. do me a favour and take up a real cause to get upset about...

blackie, why should teachers not care about a pupils feet...
In this age of law suits and personal injury claims schools have to abide by something alled health and safety... now if as a teacher you are walking down a corridor and you see a barefoot pupil, you may decide to do a risk assesment to analyse the possible risks to the pupil... Yes you may argue that being barefoot does not present any obvious risks, but it is something a teacher may not expect to find in their school.. so for the sake of making sure their own backs are covered (for health and safety) they ask the pupil to put shoes on... This issue probably does not pre occupy a teachers mind every second of the day, it is a situation they have to deal with as it arises, like many other situations throughout their day. To say the teachers dont deserve to get paid and all that is completely mad!!! their just doing their job, and trying to keep their pupils safe (of course there are dicks who persecute individual kids cos of whatever reasons, but that should be looked at on a case by case scenario)

And yes i take your point that a real cause is something i believe is important, but I do believe that your right to be barefoot is an important thing (as is my freedom of speech, gay rights, equal opportunities.. all of which (inc. bein barefoot) is a human right)) BUT when some people compare opposition to it to Nazi regimes or that people who do not agree with you do not deserve your respect or even deserve to be paid in their jobs, I sort of get a bit pissed off and your side of the argument becomes weaker because of it.

 

how can you compare a teacher telling a student to put shoes on (which takes 3 seconds) to a teacher trying to help a student with a drug problem...

THERE IS NO U.S. STATE THAT MAKES SUCH A REQUIREMENT.

If that "rule" exists in your school's handbook, it was put there by a LIAR and must be redressed.

This could be a project you could undertake -- to educate an ignorant school board that perpetuates MYTHS as laws and regulations.

Is it possible that the dean was full of shit, and was pretending to read lines that are not even in the book? Did you SEE the lines?

You idiot. I did not "compare" it to Nazi regimes in the sense you are characterizing it AT ALL. I said that the ATTITUDE is the same: "I don't have to care about the mistreatment of others -- it's not happening to me!" And then, when YOU need someone in a position to help you with YOUR struggle against oppression (doesn't matter what kind of oppression, idiot!) there won't be anyone left to help defend you. If you can't get that point, you're just a moron. This is a very basic principle we're dealing with here.

And another thing: you act like the schools are justified in being paranoid overprotective of any little thing that could hurt a student -- and your justification of it is irrational, frivolous lawsuits that should not be taken seriously in the first place!

You act as though the lawsuits and the legal paranoia is what should remain in place, rather than common sense being what should prevail, and the lawsuits getting ridiculed out of court.

The country needs to take a stand against the lawsuits, not the normal behavior that everyone is afraid to engage in or tolerate because of the lawsuits!
