Hunter S Thompson, Alexander Shuligan, Timothy Leary, Rick Strassman,... What books would one recommend to a fellow psychonaut?
I rather enjoyed Generation of Swine by Thompson. Also, there's The Doors of Perception and Heaven and Hell by Aldous Huxley. Try those, kiddo.
Storming Heaven: LSD and the American Dream by Jay Stevens I always pimp this book in threads such as this. Regardless of the subject matter, it's just impeccable story telling. I couldn't put the mother fucker down.
Can't beat Ken Kesey.... If you don't think it is a great book for a psychonaut you either haven't read it or just suck.
I've heard of Storming Heaven. Haven't read it though. And I concur; Kesey a master storyteller. It's funny because I've never actually done acid, either. I just read about it alot. Haha.
depending on what kind of musik you listen to... there's a couple of books i just picked up 'the beatles and philosophy' and 'pink floyd and philosophy'
"The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test" by Tom Wolfe is one of the best non-fiction accounts of Ken Kesey and The Merry Pranksters, if not the best, that I have ever read. Tom Wolfe has several good books that I would recommend to a "true space cadet" or just your "average joe." "Letters From The Earth" by Mark Twain is another unbelievable book and can stir up some crazy thinking. Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. is another good author and I highly recommend "Player Piano," "Breakfast of Champions," "Cat's Cradle," "The Sirens of Titan," and of course, "Slaughterhouse-Five." I try to read at least four or five books a week and in the past year have gotten away from fiction. I could go on and on with book recommendations but I do not want to hog the thread. If you want to PM for some good reads I will be glad to send you in the right direction. One last thing, the Beat writers are good to read and will give you a little insight into what things were like right before the whole counter culture of the 1960s started strong. Peace, dudes. -NICU
