4 more years....it seemed to work for Bush.....but what about the youth.....polls tell the truth....almost the same percentage of 18-24 year olds voted in this years election as they did in 2000...what does that tell us? Not much to be honest.....the media blitz provided by MTV,among other news agencies... and huff and puff, Diddy's "Vote or Die" campaign seemed to fail almost completley...It almost seemed like they were trying to con us into voting or thinking we have a "voice" or we mattered in a vote....some may agree and some might not agree....but what I have to ask those people is..."was your voice heard?" or did you just stand by like the cattle we are to the "more privelged americans" who are running our country? Dont get me wrong, voting is important...but why vote when there is nothing worth voting for.....I voted for Kerry...I voted for change....but in reality what change would have come from this election? Iraq would still be Iraq...our boys would still be dying for a lost cause WMD's or not...if Kerry was elected we just couldnt say "alright, everyone out of Iraq, and let them work it out" it isnt possible.....Kerry would have improved things but not completley resovled them...Iraq is the next Vietnam....and N.Korea is the next World war...Bush set a precedent with Iraq...pretty much stating that any dictator with WMD's is a threat and should be taken care of with force and not diplomacy(i.e Iraq and Saddam)..Kerry was great....but as a liberal dem. there were flaws in Kerry's campaign...but it was still better than Bush's puppeteering act...Yes, i think Kerry should of won, but i think J. Stahlin(sp) had it right..."the ones who count the votes, are the ones who control the vote." communist im not, but he is right....Listen if we dont stand up...we will be stood on....the next 4 years are crucial....the youth...the non-voters of today are our deciding votes of tomorrow....we need revolutionaries....we need protesters.....we need a generation to "stand up and fight for your rights"....we need to be heard because if were not our voices and thoughts will fade and be lost forever....we have the chance...right now....make a difference....dont be afraid to voice an opinion........it will take a generation such as the counter-culture/hippy generation of the 60's to change the world......its there...i know you people have to feel it.....if not i dont know what to say, but this..."change starts with thoughts of your future"....where do you want to be in 4 more years.....i know where ill be......changing the world were in now......sorry for the political rant......its probally the last thing you want to hear.........peace and vision brothas and sistahs

Man Orsino2, there is so MUCH you can do that it's uncanny right now!!! There IS a revolution being sparked by people out there. The educated masses are overwhelming the nation, but these types of politcal reforms take time. Unfortunately the election was largely based on Christian fundamentalism and evangelical votes seeing Bush as a righteous president. I don't know where the hell all of that came from, but somehow our education system is mixing church and state in a backwards revolution when the rest of us are trying to move forward.

We have a lot to overcome, those of us who are liberal and secular, but the main question is who will actually do something without becoming aware, and perhaps rightly so, that there isn't much that one person alone can do? How much can one person do in a system where the majority will not listen because it goes against their own religious convictions? We're just playing ourselves if we think that politics was the sole dictator of the election. Kerry obviously had better politics and public appearence, but Bush had the support of the people who believe largely in what he believes in. What is that? Well friend, that's Christian fundamentalism and evangelism.

I hate to have to be someone who fights against the ideals of a faith that my own father upholds, but it's very difficult for many people to understand fundamentalism from secularism. Christian Fundamentalists fight for prayer in schools, Christian control of democracy, Christian principles being the only acceptable social basis for justice and laws, and so on... not to mention the literal authenticity of everything in the Bible. That's awesome that these people have such a strong faith and so much of their life relies on it! I totally think that having a strong faith is a key part of living "the Good Life." What's sad to see is that these people don't understand their own reality that they face. The majority of Christian Fundamentalists are on the middle to lower class scale of society, and the few that have transcended their economic condition are usually brought up in homes that are very Fundamental and have never challenged the authority of their parents. Why? Read some Nietzche and you'll get a little insight, but that's not all there is to it.

A lot of people are afraid to think of their spirituality outside of the box, so to say, and therefore they find it hard to truly appreciate the work that the secular community is doing to make advances in humanitarian efforts. I'm finding it hard to find a single educated Fundamentalist Biblical scholar out there who has been exposed to what is known as Higher Criticism of the Bible. My father is not a Fundamentalist at all, and I was raised as a Christian with the understanding that there is a God and a lot of our faith isn't determined by things set in stone tablets, so much as the way God and I relate with each other. That is to say, that the Secular Christians see God as represented in the Bible, but they don't take it literally.

A Secular Christian sees the validity and invalidity of the Biblical writings. They make a science out of studying the Bible and they don't take anything for granted without fully examining every possible angle. They are the Christians that almost seem to be non-Christians, as seen in the Da Vinci Code, but they aren't non-Christians, rather they are educated and exposed to the truths and falsehoods of the Bible. Secular Christians would be the ones who would admit that Jesus probably wasn't born to a virgin, that Jesus may have never even come back from the dead, and that most of the stories in the Old Testament have been sadly mistranslated and misinformed. Does that mean that the Secular Christians have a weak faith though, or that God hates them? Not at all!!!

All that really means is that the Secular Christians just take a different approach to the same material, and that approach is an Academic one, not a Mystic or a Fundamental approach. Presbyterians are well known for being the leaders in true Secular Christianity, but how ironic that many of them are also Republicans... My father is a Republican Presbyterian Minister, but yet he broke down and found just cause to admit that Bush was crazy and the worse of the two candidates, and he actually voted Democrat for the first time in 30 years. My mom is already a Democrat, so she already knew how to vote, even though GA was overwhelmingly a Bush state.

Notice that the Presidental Election map was colored red for Bush throughout the Bible Belt and in many of the more neo-conservative and Fundamental states. Kerry was the winner in all of the more progressive, secular, and liberal states. It really came down to a question of religion and the religious authority of our leader (GASP!). Now THERE'S a SCARY THOUGHT for you man....

I am sorry to burst your bubble man, but there's so much that can and should be done right now that it's not funny! Assault weapons are legal, people are split more than ever over partisan politics, and we could EASILY lose a lot of our contribution from Japan and China if we don't play our cards right.... A vote for Bush was a vote for a revolution, if that man fucks up just a little more, and you know what? There's little we can do to stop him from doing that legally. He has almost COMPLETE control over us at this point... The Check and Balance system has been pissed on and thrown away man, and there's nothing we can do about that... you're right there.

Something sadly tells me that there's going to be a revolution when we see gas sky rocket and the economy drop as a result of Bush's bullshit. Four more years can easily mean four more decades to fix what he messes up, and that's probably not going to happen before someone does something else stupid. I don't think it's going to be a peaceful revolution, but I hope so. Sadly, it seems that political reform has to accompany blood in our world, so don't be surprised when people like us are shoved aside and ridiculed for hoping for peace. There are people in my school that only voted for Bush because he was for the guns and supported Christian morals. Last time Christian morals and fighting were combined we saw the crusades... How funny that Bush used that same word....

To support Bush is to actually fall into the trap of thinking your own religious foundation is going to save you in a world where every other practice has it's fundamentals that are just as strong as your own. Is it wise to take a Fundamental approach to politics when the very people we are fighting are just as Fundamental about their own faith? I don't think so! That just means each side dies till all the Fundamentalists are dead... and unfortunately it won't just be Fundamentalists who die.... through legal action and sanctions, they'll have the rest of us killed along side them if not before them. Don't be a dumbass! Don't fight!

Bush is all about sending the Secular Christians to the front of the battle, and he would do it with the same smirk on his face that he had when he was so sure he would win the election. He even said that as long as he had the Evangelical vote, he would win the election, and look what happened... way to prove the bastard right America! But do you think it's only the Secular Christians Bush wants to get rid of? Nope! It's Communists, Liberals, Gays, Lesbians, Pagans, Muslims, Buddists, Hippies, and anyone else who lives aside from his own culture and his own people.

Bush, Rumsfield, and Cheney all have a written plan for a New America that they wrote before Bush ever was elected to office, and now look who all has the power. We, as a nation, let our own intellectual laziness fuck us over for four years, and now we're in for another four. We never saw it coming because Bush made sure we never saw it coming. Is the media being controlled? Is there true freedom of speech? Is there even such thing as freedom in this country? Can you believe and practice whatever religion you like? Can you be in charge of what goes into your body and what stays out? Can you even have your body disposed of without the state being in charge of it? Can you marry whoever you want without the government getting involved? Can you sleep with whoever you want without the government getting involved? Can you worship however you want without the governement getting involved? Can you meet with the people you want without the government stepping in? Can you go to a show where people are assembled to listen to music and have a good time without the cops making drug arrests and hounding people for looking suspicious? Can you die of natural causes without the government getting involved and performing an autopsy? Can you even talk about overthrowing the government as the Founding Fathers spoke of it in our own Declaration of Independence????? The answers to those questions is a resounding chorus of," HELL NO!!!!!!!"

If there is little I can do to remedy this, then I would like you to try to stop me Godamnit! I'm gonna beat the system one day, and you're going to sit there and benifit from me overcoming assholes who already gave up the fight before it started. I suggest that you get your ass out there and FIND SOMETHING to do, or you kindly shut the fuck up and back the fuck off! You think you know what can and can't be done? I think you have just shown us ALL how Bush was elected in the first place.... People with THAT kind of attitude!

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to attack you here at all man, but I am saying that NOTHING gets done if people agree that nothing can be done. That's not true... FIGHT THE FIGHT! FIGHT FOR TRUTH! FIGHT FOR FREEDOM FOR ALL PEOPLE! Bush says shit like that, but is it true? That's my question to you brother... is Bush fighting for the universal truth, or the truth as he would have it be??? Secular, or Fundamental....???

You're right, lostblackdog. There IS a lot we can do. For now, although we probably wouldn't see much success, we need to start planning for 2008. We obviously can't afford another Right Wing Extremist like Bush, but we need someone much better than John Kerry. I think we need to help empower the third parties, not just for 2008, or 2012, or even 2016, but even further into the future.

Think about this: Once George W. Bush leaves office in 2008, The Bush's and Clinton's will have been running this country for, if you include George H.W. Bush's Vice-Presidency, 28 years. Plus, right now, Democrats are saying that Hillary Clinton is their top prospect for 2008. If she was elected, that would push the number of years up to 32-36. That is absolutely uncalled for. We need a more diverse presidency!
