Is anyone here in to 2012?
From what I read the world is in for a wild ride.

    see this http://video.google.com/videoplay?d...ei=8iwISpqDOKD8qAPuhe2_Ag&q=solar+maxium+2012

According to the rumors on the net by 2012 things are going to get really fucked up.

NASA is predicting a big solar storm in 2012 that could knock out all electrical devices.

    Does anyone here have thoughts?

I hope that this thread draws some interesting post.

    Peace
    Dan

Remember the drama in 1999 about how fucked up everything would be when computers supposedly wouldn't be able to understand the year switch and the civilized world would fall apart? People were hoarding canned food for their bomb shelters and all sorts of crazy things. And what happened? Nothing. I think 2012 will be exactly the same. Lots of fuss over nothing.

Dec 12th 2012 is the Mayan equivalent to Dec 31st of the calender on your desk. Just like the world doesn't end when you flip the page of your calendar on Dec, the world won't end on Dec 12th either.

Plus there is nothing in Mayan myth or science that we have that shows they believed this.

I am a professional astrologer, who practices traditional European and Arabic astrology, and believe me if anyone in the West would have believed the world was going to end, it would have been them. They didn't say anything. The History Channel likes to site Nostradamus as supporting the whole 2012 thing. They are wrong. I practice the same astrology as he did, and he never said anything about it, nor is there any astrological phenomena to support it.

The only thing 2012 is supposed to signify in an astrological sense is the beginning of the Age of Aquarius, but technically, I think the influences of this age began around the 1950s.

The date of the shift from the age of Pisces to the age of Aquarius is really quite fishy(!) The hippies have announced the dawn of that age since the sixties. I have read several different interpretations, rating from 'we have already arrived there' to 'it is not happening astronomically until some time into the next century.' Hence always this talk of 'the dawn.' We're not quite there yet.
On another note I can't imagine why it's supposed to be such a wonderful thing. Though Aquarius has many great traits (humanitarianism, new thought, innovation) it is also the sign of rigid, self-righteous ideas. A few big dictators who killed millions of people for the sake of their 'right' ideas were Aquarians (Stalin & Mao). For the last 2.000 years we were supposedly in the age of Pisces, the sign of universal love, forgiveness and humility. And look where it got us.

I always felt that astrological ages pertained more to religion, its aspects, and its teachings, in relation to the age we are in. From 0 AD - present, we have been in the age of Pisces, and under the guidance of Jesus (a religious symbol for this sign) and these constant teachings/preachings of universal love, forgiveness, compassion for one another as human beings etc. (these teachings have also contradicted themselves and lead to chaos and civil disagreement due to dualistic views and people with emotions too powerful to control) sound familiar? ;) The point I'm getting at is, I think since there seems to be a strong connection between astrological ages, and the shifts in religion, or more specifically, the religious figures that emerge that we begin to "follow" in our faith, that the shift to the age of Aquarius should be quite interesting, and may bring some very useful and new things into general human awareness. Philosophy will shift itself from emotion and duality to scientific and objective.

You can definitely tell that the age of Aquarius's teachings are already on the horizon, what with the rise of Scientology and things of the sort. The rapid advancements of technology signify this as well. I think we are in for quite a wild ride with the coming of the new astrological age, and if anything, its a major chance to get to observe enormous universal shifts and their effects on our tiny world and on human consciousness!!

I believe it will be more of an awakening then a tradgedy. And like others said will be entering a new age. Happens every couple thousand years

the Tzolkin calendar really isn't "astrology" at all. in fact it is more of an energy tracking system.
in your defense, you do say that you practice the traditional astrology...a far cry from what the Mayans were getting at.

surely you should at least mention something about how they believe this date to be the 5th sun, and (I believe) the end of the final 13th baktun cycle, to conclude this "age".

and then science reporting leakages in the Earth's magnetosphere for the first time makes you wonder if we're preparing to "receive" some energy.
there's also that article about how the most powerful photons ever were being observed form the galactic equator.

whats also interesting is how it isn't only the Mayans who arrived at this date...not by a long shot..

I for one am ready for a density shift.

i'm interested in 2012...as far as trying to figure out some sort of scheme to make a profit out of all these end of the world nuts. goddamn, i remember for the 2000 scare i knew a kid whose parents stacked hay bails around their house for insulation and bought cases and cases of bottled water and batteries and tanks full of gasoline.

would be pretty cool if something actually happened though. the world's getting too boring...some anarchy would be a nice change. lol.

There are definitely signs that we are already in the age of Aquarius.

I even believe the 'prophet' for this age is here. His name is Eckhart Tolle! (He is Aquarius) but more to the point, his teachings are so brilliantly clear and focuses on objective consciousness. He is the only spiritual teacher (since Jesus) who reaches the masses. His books are on best-seller lists in every country. You can buy them in every airport and news stand. That has never happened before in human history. Not even the great Osho reached that many people, though he is continously in print.

Another obvious Age of Aquarius sign is the revolution that came with the internet. How it is uniting global consciousness and freeing the flow of information in a radical way that no science-fiction writer could ever have predicted. All they were busy inventing were visions of flying cars and ray-guns, while the reality became far more outrageous and fantastic than that. That sort of revolution is a clear Aquarian Age sign.

Walk into any bookstore and ask for 'the Power of Now' by Eckhart Tolle. The blockbuster of spiritual awakening. It's been on the bestseller list continously since it was published in the late ninieties. His second book, 'A New Earth' is a bestseller too. I don't know where you've been hiding if you never heard about him. He was also on Oprah and is endorsed by her which was a big boost for his popularity as well.

    you are
therein lies the irony of god

you probably haven't heard of Eckhart because the best things in this day and age need to be searched for... I really doubt that government sponsored and funded agencies would invest in somebody spreading the truth and simplicity of life.

Didn't think Jesus had a for profit business and a freak like Oprah at his beck and call to reach the masses-it wasn't until after he was hung to dry that his teachings even spread beyond his cult.

Yeah really hard to find his writing......
he's on Oprahs book club-That means a guaranteed bestseller
