i know racist white people who hang out with black people. they find "exceptions to the rule." i know black people that do the same thing. hell, one of my friends' dad (one of my buddies at the party) is openly racist against white people, but he still finds exceptions once he gets to know you.

Ok dude, first off, your assuming allot... so you live in indiana, that sure is a real ghetto place. That place is filled with tons of rednecks, if i was black and lived in indiana, i would be racist too, but like I said, it sounds like they were just joking (although like i said before, you really haven't said what they were saying to you). Secondly, I live in cincinnati, and I often go visit family in cleveland, so don't tell me I don't know what its like to be in an urban setting, fuck, theres probably more black people in cincinnati and cleveland than in all of fucking indiana.

I believe that you've abundantly made your point. All you're now doing is browbeating the OP- he's explained the situation and has exposed some latent racism in himself in the process. Neither one of you is going to change the others attitude on this.

You've already suggested that he off himself which I initially chose to interpret as humor but the only thing I can see coming of this rhetoric is a flame war. Please stand down- we're all aware of your sense of self-righteousness and your contempt for most Americans. Please just let this go and be happy feeling that you're so much superior to almost everyone else here.

and as far as my "latent racism" ...i'm not racist. but i did experience my first sincere racist thoughts while dealing with being treated like a "white boy" for the first time in my life. i guess it is true that hate begets hate.

 

I'm giving him the benefit of doubt here... and ignoring that he repeatedly expresses utter contempt for U.S. citizens. A good number certainly dignify what he says but he paints with too broad of a paintbrush in my opinion. Personally I see much of what he contributes to be less than constructive but I'd wager he's not concerned with being constructive... more with inducing an emotional reaction and drawing others into his negativity... in other words trolling. The best way to deal with trolls is not to engage them- and what the hell do you care what he thinks of you anyway? Let him think what the hell ever he wants. Personally I give less and less of a flying fuck considers the way he insists on expressing it.

And as for latent racism, I look at it less as a character flaw and more an inevitable smudge of cultural shit that transfers to just about every last person in the United States- including me... and the best way to combat it is first to acknowledge it.
