Merzbow, isn't that grindcore? I loathe grindcore. I like to hear melodies in my music. Well okay, good rhythms can make the lack of melody quite bearable sometimes.

 

Yeah.. so I'm pretty sure that most people who hate emo have never heard real emo, or haven't heard enough.

 

Merzbow is generally just classed as noise. His music encorporates harsh electronics, founds sounds, analog synth, tape loops, but very rarely guitars.

You'd fucking hate him.

 

I'm never sure about how to categorise them, I can see how they could be called emo, in a loose sense. From what I've heard of "God Bless Your Black Heart" it is going to be devastating.

I like emo... my appreciation for dashboard is becoming lower and lower, but the get up kids are nice, and I like jets to brazil too...

I think people that just say 'emo is whiney and it doesn't rhyme' (mostly punkers) are ignorant fuckers. OK, so you don't like emotional songs, so what? and it doesn't rhyme?? so what? half of all poetry doesn't rhyme....

It might also be my hate for punk... Punk isn't musically interesting or challenging, punk 'singers' are often uh... not so good at singing and the lyrics all come down to atheism (which is ok) anarchy (which, in my opinion is total bullshit) and hate (which is really bad too...)

Dude, I agree somewhat with you, but Jane's Addiction is a seriously shitty fucking band. I used to listen to punk in high school, and at all the punk parties everyone would get drunk and then cry. So there I am, looking at all these punk rock "rebels" crying, and I think this was the birth of emo. Not that I witnessed it, but I think once all the little ignorant punks out there sober up or get drunk they finally realize how sad they are and then write really shitty songs about getting dumped by some twat in high school.

A lot of people blame Weezer for emo, but I blame the Beatles.

 

Everybody's definition of emo seems to be different; some people consider certain bands emo, while I would never even think of calling them that. I guess my favorite 'emo' bands are: Death Cab For Cutie, Taking Back Sunday, Senses Fail, Dashboard (although that's kind of a stretch), and Fall of Transition. I'm also getting into Moneen and FFAF. Emo is probably one of the few styles of music that nobody can define and have everybody agree with them. I guess thats because it's emotional and reaches us on a more personal level (well it does for me, anyways). Well thats my opinion on all this... alright.

Emo is rad. It's the music that I listen to the most. And as for someone saying that emo is punk for sissies that can't handle real punk... I say, you're full of shit. Emo is punk, but it gets to the more emotional part of what makes people the way they are.

 

Emo isn't punk it evolved from punk.

 

I like some Emo, i listen to it occasionally if im in the mood, but it gets depressing after about 3 songs...obviously
