It's cheap but I'll just copy my list from the "heavy metal" thread ( slightly extended )... HEAVY / POWER METAL - Iced Earth ( JUST LISTEN! I promise you'll be hooked ) - Black Sabbath ( the ones who started it al... ) - Evergrey ( dark progressive heavy metal ) - Blind Guardian ( epic power metal, really great ) - Sonata Arctica ( happy and fast power metal ) - Old Metallica ( pre-Load is awesome, post-Load is okay but not metal ) - Sentenced ( suicidal heavy metal, saw them live and I saw that it was gooood ) - Iron Maiden ( changed my best friend from an emo girl into a full-fledged metalhead(ess) in one instance, really amazing music ) - Megadeth ( hmmmm... peace sells... ) GOTHIC METAL - After Forever ( the main difference with Within Temptation is that this is metal ) - Autumn ( darker and less happy than AF, so more the way gothic metal was meant to be ) - Crematory ( with grunts and clean vocals and electronic pieces ) DOOM METAL - My Dying Bride ( THE best doom band in the world IMO ) - The Prophecy ( promising new British band in the vein of MDB ) - Whispering Gallery ( I guess I just like MDB-ish bands ) - Doomsword ( maybe more heavy / viking metal-ish but epic and heavy ) - Shape of Despair ( no song less than 8 minutes and desperate as hell ) - Khanate, Funeral Tomb, Sunn O))) or Esoteric ( when feeling exceptionally bad > ) BLACK METAL - Dimmu Borgir ( newer stuff not really BM ( more like industrial bombastic death metal ) but older stuff is... with keaboards for added accessability ) - Cradle of Filth ( newer stuff not really BM ( more like um... extreme symphonic heavy metal ) but older stuff is... with keyboards and shrieking vocals ) - Marduk ( extreme blasphemous Swedish black metal that will blow you to pieces ) - Immortal ( Muchly awesome Norwegian black metal with Popeye on vocals? ) - Ancient Rites ( Belgian triumphant black metal, great stuff ) - Darkthrone ( raw, grim, and basic black metal that follows absolutely NO trends at all ) - Emperor ( beautiful bombastic sophisticated psychedelic symphonic progressive black metal ) - Nokturnal Mortum ( Ukrainian NSBM ( sadly ) with folk influences ) - Dissection ( proof that murderers can make good music ) - Dawn ( mesmerising melodic Swedish black metal ) - Taake ( doesn't get any more Norwegian than this ) - Absu ( delicious Texan thrashy black metal ) - Anorexia Nervosa ( hysterical French symphonic black metal ) - Solefald ( brilliant and experimental with saxophones and other odd stuff ) ( Also: Setherial, Graveland, Abigor, Gorgoroth, Dark fortress, Dark Funeral, Mayhem, Enthroned, Calvarium, Borknagar, Old Man's Child, Rotting Christ, Satanic Warmaster, Endstille, Liar of Golgotha, Averse Sefira, The Legion, Thornspawn, Hecate Enthroned, Bathory, etc. etc. etc. but my list would get too long ) THRASH METAL - Kreator ( my favourite Thrash metal band of all time ) - Destruction ( good German thrash band ) - Tankard ( beer metal! ) - Deströyer 666 ( black / thrash hybrid, pinaccle of aggression ) - Aura Noir ( black / thrash hybrid ) - In Flames ( up to The Tokyo showdown ) DEATH METAL - Death ( masters of the genre ) - Nile ( great brutal and yet refined DM with Egyptian-influenced lyrics and music ) - Incantation ( brilliant blasphemous death metal with doomy slow parts ) - Kataklysm ( Canadian blast attack ) - Newer Behemoth ( old stuff is black, and they still have a unique black metal vibe ) - Amorphis ( Tales from the thousand lakes has beautiful psychedelic lead guitars ) OTHER - Rammstein ( industrial metal, very awesomish ) - Korn ( "nu-metal", but better than all the bands you summed up ) - Finntroll ( folk metal, happy black-ish metal for partying ) - Amon Amarth ( viking metal, you can taste the mead in the music ) - Sadistik Exekution ( um... Total Fucking Kaos?? ) - Opeth ( don't know where to fit them but they're good... they're REALLY good ) As you can see I'm mainly specialised in Black Metal. Of course I can't guarantee that you'll like it as well but there's just a little bit of everything I like, so... Enjoy.
