I have nothing but RESPECT for John Kerry. He is a VERY DECENT MAN, extremely smart and ideologically strong. He would make an excellent president of a university; as far as the election went, he was simply the wrong man for the wrong job and the wrong time. He also had the stones to stand up and concede instead of dragging the country through the muck of endless recounts and lawyer challenges, unlike Mr. Gore. This is exactly why oppression continues to exist in this world. Becuse of people that think like this man. Because of this "My ideals should belong to everybody" mentality. We all know the vast majority of people are better than this man, but fear and hate drove these kinds of people to the polls this election. We can't let that happen again. Maybe these next four years will be a lesson to those who did not vote. Do we want a society where we are represented by hate and intolerence? Where someone is more concerned about men kissing than where this country and humanity as a whole will be in 20, 50, 100, 200 years? I don't want this country to be left behind in progression because of corporate greed and religious ideology. The rest of the world is zooming past us right now while we squabble over "under god" in the constitution or gay marriage ammendments, or WMD in Iraq. We are America, we are supposed to be leading the world, yet we seem to be stuck in an episode of the Real World battling over who is kissing who. At the same time the government is pouring BILLIONS of OUR OWN money, from OUR pockets into all these endeavors that we could hardly care less about as long as some politician comes out and tells us it's okay. "Shut up, follow, or get the hell out of the way" is the one of the most un-american philosophies I have heard. Had our founding fathers thought that, we wouldn't exist as we are today. So, the entire american people, not just the voters, have to ask: Is this what we are going to let happen to our country? Or the better question, is this really what our country is? It makes me sick. But this is how it works. Any study of history will show you that progression always comes, and although there is always resistance, it is unavoidable.
