when she took hers out did she have gobs of loose hair? My hair always falls out like crazy and I'm a little grossed out by the thought of all those loose hairs stuck in my dreads...illogical I know because they're like dready food.

Dreaded hair is damaged because you allow irreversible knots to get in your hair. If you are even able to comb them out, you will lose a lot of hair in the process. I combed a few out after 6.5 months and lost a ton of hair. You just have to get over that if you want dreads.

i dont think its hair loss (as in hair thinning) as such,, its just the hairs that shouldve fallen out when you brushed/washed/combed your hair... with dreads those hairs stay there, so when you comb dreads out, all that hair comes out

Yes, that's how dreads are formed, but if you comb them out, not just those hairs are going to come out. A lot of others will come out too because they're all knotted together. The fact that most people have to cut out rather than comb out their dreads further proves this...

thanks everyone, i am hoping to finish them today when she gets off work, she wanted the bands in, its her dreads so she can do what she wants with them, seeing her with them is crazy bc i want mine done but it takes longer going the neglect way. i wish my hair was the length of her tho

I guess if you don't put bands in the roots then those on the tips will keep them neater while they're new and then you can always cut the tips off later

I can't picture how tip bands can get sucked in, especially on new dreads as where are they getting sucked too? >.< but its a myth of this board best not questioned as to avoid conflict ^^

bubbletonic, i think that they mean the loose/frizz mats over the band and it disappears into the lock. also, i've read on here that they get slimey or fall apart and the bits are hard to remove.

ah, ok i can see that. I knew someone who had a retarded amount of bands in, I'm not sure what happened to his though, I wouldnt ask him either, nor do I ask him about hair, candle stick situation, he's two years in and still usin o_O he's wierd though..even by my standards. But back to the point, if she wants bands we cant stop her......though we can heavily influence ^^
