Nothing! Except that I don't want to look like that! Bikes are sweet, but I'm not a harley fan. More of a sports bike is what I prefer.

Dragonvine: I kind of did to the end of the braid what peoples say to do to your ends if you want them to round. Hold it like a pencil and swirl and rub until there's some knots. I was worried about some, so I kind of took the felting needle to the ends to a few, but there was no visual difference between that and leaving them at just rubbing. Or actual staying in difference, they seem to be about the same for that.

    Ahh funky xD I've got a 20mm, a 6mm going up to a 10, another 6mm and a 4mm :)

Going up to 20mm was a bastard cus the stretchers were huge and i couldnt deadstretch (pushing the taper straight through instead of letting it stretch on its own) cus it ripped before so couldn't bare risking it again xD

Can't wait to get my 10mm back! I've got a gorgeous wooden tribal.. erm.. it isnt a plug or a tunnel, its like tanna's things but less wide :) 10mm Earing? XD I've got to convert my old dangly earrings so that I can wear them with my tunnels or plugs :) So thats my next job xD

The 20mm is annoying atm cus the plug I have in keeps falling out and ive got no other plugs with me :( and I don't want to buy a newone off the net cus ive spent too much already this month and i know i wont stop at one plug :p

I think the main thing is that the process seems scary to me. haha And then, I'm nervous I won't be able to dread my hair properly and such. But how I would love to have beautiful dreads!

the process is difficult at first. unless, of course, you are perfect in every way like some of the neglect elitists on here. first you need to decide what you want your locks to look like. it seems you have an idea of what you think is "proper". so, now you can decide what type of method you want to use to start your locks. it is very hard to get over the uglies. for me it was, at least. once you are ok with the idea that your hair is going to be a complete mess for several months, you are ready. lol.

I'm pretty sure it'd be hard for to get over the uglies, too! Another thing would be that I like my hair the way it is, long and wavy. As much as I want dreads, I don't think I'd be ready to give up my hairstyle just now. This is why I haven't gotten dreads yet. I want to wait to feel ready, then I'll be able to be patient and remain calm (enough) throughout the process.
Just a question, and then I'll be done hijacking this thread ;) : does the length of the hair affect the dreading process? If my hair is longer, does it make it harder to dread?

that's a bit hard to answer. if it's too short (assuming you have straight caucasian hair) knots tend to slip out easily. but, if it's too long, it'll be a loopy mess and you may lose a lot of length. i kinda wish my hair had been a bit shorter when i started mine.

gypsy you sound like a smart gal. I'm sure when you start your dreads you will appreciate the journey more for waiting til you were ready. I wanted dreads for 5 or so years before I was in a position and ready to start them.

My hair is not quite shoulder length and all the dreads in the back fell out right away because they were too short. But now they are coming back together. How much length you lose also may depend on the method you use to start them.

herbalist- I have wavy/curly hair half-way down my back, and it's pretty thick.

earthgirl- I fell in love with dreads about a year and a half ago. I could have gotten them right away, but I knew I would just end up losing patience, chopping them off, and never consider them again... yeah.. i'd rather wait. :p
