It seems that there is a large variety of types of women who get dreads. I have noticed that there are some who like the natural look while others like dolling themselves up. I just wanted to open up a bit of a discussion about it. I rarely shave my legs... only when it starts to get itchy and uncomfortable (maybe once a month... usually less I would guess). I shave my underarms every couple weeks but would love to not shave my underarms at all, but even just the other day I caught a good male friend of mine staring at my underarms cuz they were all black. lol I think he felt uncomfortable by it and that did make me a bit uncomfortable as well. But here is where I am vain and I admit it. I have a terrible unibrow if I do not pluck. I hate that my vanity makes me do it... but at the same time, I do not think anyone would like seeing that. It's hugely ugly. I feel likely plucking my eyebrows is my equivalent to wearing make up. It makes me feel pretty and fresh. Just wondering what other ladies do/feel about the topic.
I do everything, makeup, the whole shabang. I'm an arteest, and my body is just another thing I can decorate.. and as far as shaving goes, well, I just like the feeling. I don't shave much during the winter, though.
I'm like you daisy, if I don't wax or pluck I have a unibrow, plus a mustache I rarely wear makeup other than eyeliner and only shave during the summer. I do like getting dressed up, wearing skirts and heels.
i feel the same way about make up being an art. i don't do it because it makes me look "pretty. it's just fun. i did my eyes today as an ode to the purple iris. i shave my legs maybe once a month and myarmpits weekly. i also pluck my brows, because i too have a uni. everything else is natural. thehair removal is just becaue i like the way it looks, it's feminine to me. on the other hand, having no pubic hair is not feminine tome. yuck. i don't want o look like a little gil down there. lol
Lots of diversity. =) greenearthgirl - I do have a mustache, but that puppy just stays there. lol It's a blessing that me and my two sisters have. One has chosen to remove hers while one sis and I still wear ours proudly. lol It's not terribly noticeable, but I'm sure anyone I talk with for any length of time sees it. Funny how that doesn't bother me near as much as my eyebrows. And heels... I got to quit work last year (I was a manager where I had to dress up) and I have not worn heels since. =) =) Just not my thing.
lol, so does it bother you when I tell you I do not own anymore than five pair? 1 pair of skateboard shoes (I wear these daily) 1 pair of winter boots 1 pair of rubbers 2 pair of sandals
I shave my armpits every other week I guess..., but that's it. No makeup or anything too. (The one negetive point too that is that people often don't now if I'm a boy ar a girl) I really like the natural idea, with dreads but also with live in general. Live would be so much easier if we could all just be how we are and care more about how we treat eachother than how we look good in front of eachother. I'm not against shaving legs. It does look a little more sexy, but there's just too much amphesis on it. We have body hair, everybody does, it's nature.
word and I have always played dress up, never stopped after childhood. I was in theater in high school and now I just dress crazy!
I like this thread^_^I love clothes and shoes but don't have many. I like to be super edited and have one style and I take 10mins to get ready in the morning so choose my clothes quick. I like to wear eyeliner so I have kind of kitty eyes. Thats all though, I hate blush/mascarra/lipgloss. I can't stand having that stuff on my face. I just love eye makeup and rarely take it off. I like the 'slept in my eye makeup' look. I have a pretty messed up style, yesterday I gave away practically my whole closet except for 5 dresses, 1 pair of jeans, a skirt, few tops and 3 pairs of shoes.
oooh I do like mineral powder. it takes like a second to sweep over your face and gives your skin such a pretty glow.
yes! the glow is the best and it's good for your skin. i use bare essentials i.d. or whatever it's called
haha cute thread i dont wear ANy makeup lol ^ except for bare essentials i.d when my acne gets outahand lol, i get alotta crap for not wearing makeup but i hate it but i pluck shave wax EVERYTHING im hispanic if i dont i look like a hairy lumberjack and clothes im simple i wear jeans or dude shorts a band tee or a dress and just my tennisshioes lol
oh yah and as for shaving, I like shaving my legs as I think it's more feminie and I wear dresses most of the time so hairy legs would just look goofy imo. As for underarms, I would loveee to quit shaving them! I think it looks more feminine with hair there but I just couldn't be bothered with people (friends etc) asking me about it. And it kind of gives in to the 'dirty hippy' vibe that dreads can give and I don't want to be stereotyped. I shave them at least once a week but since I have such dark hair it totally grows back by the next day!
People like me! I try to look as natural as possible. That being said, I do feel the need to shave my legs and armpits often enough, since I'm in bodysuits and tights at least 5 days a week for dance. I don't wear makeup unless my acne is really bad, then it's just mineral powder. Unfortunately, no beautiful dreads for me (possibly in the future =]) , but my hair is wavy and is halfway down my back. I just wash it and go.
I rarely shave, and use no makeup at all... Also, I usually don't wear shoes. I like wrap tie dye skirts and flowy gauze shirts...and I have so many hemp bracelets on you can barely see my arm ha! I like to respect my body's natural form and really try not to alter it, I think there's a reason why body hair is there to begin with.
hehe I am Greek so those are some of my faves. and muse. i got a dark green dress and a gold braided belt, and i have these lace up sandals... boyfriend said I look like I'm wearing a halloween costume almost oh n I use i.d too, it's so light but works like a charm, I get pink nose
