The White Stripes and all the rest are some fucking shitty bands. Please don't buy their records anymore.
I'm so glad you told me not to buy their records even if they are talented and original. thanks jox strap
Well Interpol sounds retro, fuck i already bought thier albums! Holy shit the Beachwood Sparks remind me of the Byrds, GODDAMIT I ALREADY BOUGHT THIER ALBUMS TOO!
You speak in an incorrect manner! Copying the Beatles is not very original! You hurt my feeling over the internet by calling me jox strap too! You are a big meanie! Meg White is soo talented on the drums! What was I thinking?! You should buy everything on the radio, and buy anything Rolling Stone tells you to!
I was being sarcastic. Anyway, I would rather listen to the white stripes than most crap on the radio.
haha, this "originality" and "talent" argument coming from a guy who just spent a good 5 minutes posting 3 times telling me just how good, talented and intelligent hip-hop is, and how stupid I am for not liking it. Honestly, talent can only be gauged, like I've told you people a million times before, by technical complexity and technical prowess. The rest is one large subjectivity. Honestly, I don't think you'd have the ability to gauge music technically, because I'm assuming you have no knowledge of technical theory whatsoever. I'm so glad you told me what to listen to, because before you came along, I was actually considering having some free will.
lol, well I actually have to agree with him on the White Stripes. Lord-o-lord! Horrible! Retro-revival is bad. I don't know why it ever came to be. The Vines. The White Stripes. The Strokes. There are some good English and American bands doing good classic rock style, but they'd be very pissed if you called them retro-revival or put them anywhere near that genre. Ganja Gun is a good American classic rock "retro-revival" band. The only problem is, the record companies aren't going to sell what isn't going to be purchased, so only stuff like the White Stripes is going to get signed. Beyond all that, a lot of the real musicians refuse to take 10% royalty rates and to be considered a "work-for-hire" under the work-for-hire act created by the R.I.A.A. and thier lobbyist henchmen. It's simply not worth it to sign with a label anymore. I can put my music out all over the internet and reach as many people as I would with a record label, without having to pay independent radio release fees, or anything like that and I won't have to end up broke just to get people to hear my music. The record industry, because of the internet, is on it's downhill slide!
Bands copying the Beatles sound...is that any different from the Who copying The Kinks sound? Or Jimmy Page directly taking guitar licks off other musicians? ..I bloody well don't hold it against them That's how people make music, they take what they like and they create with it, you can always tell someones influences by the tunes they write...So the White Stripes, are they not aloud to have good musical influences because they are famous now? This is not a new thing really. Ever notice all the Blues roots in classic rock? What we listen to did not appear by some god given miricle, it was a mix of different gendres that already existed, does that makes their music any less creative?
i dont think its their own rock they are wanting. i think it is the excitement of the classic 60s and 70s era that people want. not to neccessarily bring back those days, but to have music with a similar feeling. mind you even the 80s these days is considered retro. and soon enough people will call the grunge bands of the 90s "retro"! now there's a scary thought!
I went and saw The Cure in concert twice this summer and Interpol was there. I can say from first hand experience that Interpol sucks they are horrible.
when i last saw the cure it was the tour for the bloodflowers album. it was bloody boring really in a way. a few good oldies mixed in there though...
Ahh and you only prove your stupidity more. I am a classically trained musician, genius. I was in band all my life, and theory doesn't define what sounds good to people. Your arguement is severely flawed, sucka. You is stupid for not's likening to hip hop. Anyone can go to a music school and learn how to be technically good and trained to have technical prowess. Talent is the ability to write/create something original while maintaining interest. Blao, you are a moron 3 times over beeyotch!
ahahaha! Oh yes, I is stupid. This coming from a guy who can't conjugate a verb, use a preposition correctly or construct a sentence properly. I would school you musically, but you know, you're already a "musician genius". lol And beyond that, I'm not really in the mood to go down that road with another layman. You is really stupid, beeeeyotch!
Uhh, you didn't make any valid points there guy, and from the way you talk about how you play, you must write some really shitty music. Not only are you an idiot, but you are also arrogant about your playing ability. Wow, you can wail up and down a fret-board! Congrats. Sorry dude, but until you can write with some originality you are fucked. I laugh at your calling me a layman, for you are the one needing to have everything explained to you. Besides that, I am a studio engineer, not a "musician genius lol". You are quite the dumbass. I throw in the things like "dumbass" and "beeyotch" because this is the internet (i.e.- it is mandatory when refuting someone to call them names and degrade them as well), but that doesn't mean you aren't a "beeyotch" or a "dumbass". Thank you for making my stay on the net entertaining. I am really enjoying this conversation with you. And the sentence reads, "I am a classically trained musician...genius." not "I am a classically trained musician genius".
Honestly, I wasn't arguing on the last post, more engaging in witty rapport, which, unfotunately, was one sided. Arguement is spelled "argument", by the way. Is it also mandatory on the internet to speak as a moron? Layman, I believe, was right on the money. There is a fine line between confidence and arrogance. Either way, I would be justified to be on either side. Confidence is my general presentation, arrogance only when need be. I don't know where you get the idea that I'm wanking up and down the fretboard. I enjoy some speedy playing at times, sure, but I'm also a master of 8-finger Baroque style contrapuntal technique, as well as fugue and canonesque contrapuntal harmonization. I suppose someone who's "classically trained" already knows all the things of which I speak, so I'll spare you the details of my progressive and neoclassical sound. I'm done here. If someone else wants to pick up the slack and waste time with you, so be it.
Aww, cute neo-classical name-dropping! Wow, you have impressed me by explaining away your egotistical nature to a philosophical paradox, and yet you still came across as full of yourself. You can go right ahead and keep on thinking you are the only person who "truly" understands music and talent. Have fun. "fugue and canonesque contrapuntal harmonization" You are such a douche.
