    Imagine 3000 yrs.... :cheers2:

The doctor that delivered my son told me his life expectancy was supposedly in the range of 120-130 based solely on the day and age that he's being born into.....

    Kinda interesting.

I've heard 30 yr olds told by doctors that theirs would be 120 or so.

Makes sense in that we've had an IT revolution, but not much in terms of medical technology.
Gene therapy/ nanotech etc might be a similar revolution over the next couple of decades.

Maybe in the future, current society's attitude to healthcare will be looked upon as a form of near suicide.

Time to get fit..... Anything less than 105 is unacceptable for me.

Too much is changing, and the level of contrast between say, now, and 105 would be f'n recockulous.

just live long enough, 10-15 more years, until we have the technology to genetically alter are own genes...could we live forever?

Looking after yourself in the past hasn't made that much difference.
    5 , 10 , 20 yrs.

But if you "naturally" live to 80 rather than 70 nowadays, could be big differences in what med tech is available to extend it.

Thats why I've got some of the weirdest health views this side of Northern California.

20 years would put my life expectancy at 105. Not too shabby. ;)

Ramble, I hope you're spot on. Immortality.... :drool5:

Well I heard some expert, immortal would translate as 600 yrs.
That would relate to your probability of dying in an accident.

There's no reason why we shouldn't be living much much longer even today. Its just the "powers that be" haven't treated it as a priority.
    Which is pretty moronic really...

There is a genetic component to ageing, the teleomeres. These shorten with time except in certain cells.Making the DNA get garbled with later cell divisions.

Alter that and u have to counter balance problems of cancer etc.
But over a couple of decades it doesn't sound *that* hard to crack.
    ... I think...

there is only one element that i don't like about this advancement...

not everybody deserves to live that long...some are just a waste of sperm. and the earth would become brutally overpopulated hundreds of years sooner...

imagine if we all lived to be 600 with the current birth rate as it is. in short, we would be speeding up our own extinction.

    Different solutions.
Dont let people have kids- except in special circumstances etc.
    Kill all the animals.
Or fire the genetically shit into outer space.

I don't see the point of society effectively commiting suicide because "it might get a bit crowded if we live longer and some people have lots of kids"...

hahha, i like the outer space solution. let's just sen all our trash out into the abyss.

we wouldn't survive without biodiversity on this planet. so killing animals is not the way.

ive read somewhere that if all the worlds countries tried to live to the standards of the west it would require about six more earths of resources...
