For some reason in springtime I get really into the whole classic Victorian stuff. I want recommendations? Books like Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, The Moonstone... I'm a sucker for flowery prose. Give me ten paragraphs describing scenery and its all good.
I took a Victorian Lit class this semester and we read Oliver Twist, Jane Eyre, Lady Audley's Secret (I recommend that one along with Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights)...and a few other shorter pieces. I love Victorian lit!
If you're still looking for a summer read, you mentioned The Moonstone, have you read any of his others? My favourites are Basil, Heart & Science, The Black Robe and (of course) The Woman in White. I'd recommend all of those (and in fact any other Wilkie Collins!). I recently bought a book called Human Croquet which was written recently but is set in Victorian times (or before I think), I haven't started it yet as I'm reading something else but maybe look that up and see what you think. It sounded interesting to me. Another book which I've yet to read, but am eager to, is The Suspicions of Mr Whicher, it's very well thought of and is again written recently but set in Victorian times. Hope this helps, happy reading!
