Twilight has got to be the most shocking movie I have ever seen. I must admit I enjoyed the books. I found them rather entertaining and considered them my guilty pleasure, however they were shockingly written and felt like needles were piercing my eyes after every sentence. I think Twilight has got a good story line, which definitely grips the reader/viewer and the movie could have been a LOT better. There was no development between characters, and no personal character development at all. It was made with the assumption that the only people who were going to watch the movie were the people who read the book hence: "Oh... so I'm guessing Bella and Edward like each other now huh?" ---and--- "So... does Bella like her father or not?" I work in a Video Store and whenever a customer hires it I feel like weeping. Thoughts?
oh... and as soon as the scene at the school started I started writhing in agony. "Like, omigosh, like." I understand the main demographic is for teenagers, but come on... I'm 17 and that was pure agony.
I was highly disappointed in the movie. It was bland. Kristen Stewart came off as more manly than Robert Pattinson and delivered her lines poorly. And yeah, you don't get to understand the other characters at all. I really hope with the next movies they'll get more into the development and the bond that the Cullens have and I hope they keep the scene in New Moon with the Indian legends. Oh, and I thought the make up job on the vampires was very poor. They could have done a lot better. Jessica's "like omg" attitude bugged the hell out of me too.
Hey saw you guys talking about twilight , i make altered domino twilight necklaces my shop is www.hippiekrystal.etsy.com
That's the thing, I'm really REALLY hoping the next one will be better. I see such potential. I'm glad someone agrees with me
The movie could have been better the book detailed more and explained more into the characters and story. I didnt really like the added parts at all they book did just fine explaining thing no more was needed
I think I was disappointed because I was coming in from both the Lord of the Rings fandom and the Harry Potter fandom and they did really well with the films, that I was expecting something a little more high budget and better. It has such a huge following, I assumed they would put more effort into it for the fans.
I really like Twilight. Saw it in theater when it came out and did this blurb at the time: http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?t=336590&f=287 I do not compare movies to books. They are different mediums and while books rely solely on words to convey feeling, sometimes a movie does that without a word being spoken - or just a few like "Say It!" and "Vampire" in a scene full of visuals. Also, books are read at your pace, where you savor those moments you relish, whereas a movie moves at the directors pace and you may not agree with a scene too fast or too slow. You lose control with a movie, until you get the DVD and can move back/forth/fast/slow on your own. For me the movie worked. It was a romance story with vampires in it. It had some action and danger but mostly a romance, which is what the old Dracula story was about - scary seduction.
Ha, Shale, you and I, so far, are at odds with each other with movies, my friend! I found it unintentionally hilarious but I'm not sure if that means I liked it or not. I'd rate it lowly because of how bad it is, but at the same time, I laughed a lot. I do agree with you, to an extent, when you said: Movies and books do work differently, for sure. The thing is: When people choose to adapt a book into a movie (or vice versa), you need to follow the book slightly. You don't need to do everything page for page, or anything silly like that, but you should -- at the very least -- tackle the same issues/themes. Or re-imagine the book, like David Cronenberg did for Naked Lunch. If you don't do anything that's like the book then there's no point in acquiring the rights. I think that's why people compare the two, but ultimately, a movie should be judged as a movie and a book as a book, I agree. But it's hard not to get more involved when you know how something is as a different medium. I think "It's not as good as the book" is moreso a throwaway criticism, at any rate.
The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons comes to mind here. I think they followed the title slightly. Oh I have an addage with my movie blurbs but haven't worked it into my sig: "I enjoy bad movies."
I saw it twice. And I liked it! But that wasn't hard to do, given that Kristen Stewart is in it. But I also thought it was artistic, more so than most movies these days.
I just watched this on DVD again and I really like the movie. And, the book author really liked this movie. She was working with the director throughout and was satisfied how her book was interpreted on screen. She even had a cameo in the movie. What I particularly like is how the relationship unfolds between Bella and Edward - how it is a dangerous seduction and surrender (the hidden appeal to all the old Dracula movies to a degree). I thought that first-love feeling in the gut was conveyed between the two, the kind I recall having a couple of times in my life when you furtively stalk the person you desire and who knows you are stalking her and she lets you catch her. A lot of it was the dialogue but it was also the delivery by the two actors that made the feeling palpable. She was his own personal heroin, he was afraid of losing control, he desired her blood. That is intense - I have been to that place in my youth and this movie reminded me of it. It is a romance above all else. But, to enjoy it I suppose one must just surrender themselves to surreptitiously feel the tension between these disparate lovers.
Is it so wrong of me to think this movie is really lame? And am I the only person in the whole world who thinks so?
i loved the books i dont really like kristen stewart, she wasnt very beleiveable .. my boyfriend watched the film with me, and he didnt know what was going on... he kept askin me a million questions... so i think ya have to read the books first... . but im a twilight addict.. and jacob is HOT it the clip for new moon WOO
IDK about ur b/f. I watched it having never read the book or with any foreknowledge of the story and followed it quite easily. (OH Yes. Even us old pervs think Jacob is hot. :drool5: Has he turned 18-yet? - don't want my fantasies to be illegal.)
