    What it is folks,

Question: I notice after i wash my hair, i rub my finger nails along my scalp and a white substance is picked up beneath my nail. It is soft, almost jelly like in it's consistency. At first i figured it was baking soda or sea salt accelerator that hadn't been rinsed well enough.. Needless to say, i practically ran to the nearest hair forum.
There i learned that it could either be a build up of to much scalp sebum, dandruff, or residue left over from bad shampoo  When dry it looks like dandruff but when wet no dandruff can be seen, just the strange substance that can be felt. I did a shampoo wash with Dr. Bronners then followed with a Apple Cidar Vinegar/Lemon rise, but it still persists..as if new forming locks didnt look rough enough :rolleyes:Has this happened to any of you? If so, what is it and how can i get rid of it?

dandruff cut out the sea salt add rosawmary oil and tewa tre oil to the bakindg soda..only a lil teatree and 3 times as much rosemary
    let it sit longer

u can lso alternate with dr b diluted at least 12-1 tewatree oil version and add rosemary to that (i add 30 or so drops to the undiluted bottle b4 diluting)

on the weeks u do use soap use your nails and reallyt scrape at every lil bit of scalp

theres other between washing things u can do in the herbs fotr your head thread in the dready info desk sticky
basicly nettles and rosemary are best burdock too i think

Thanks for the rapid response eagle :D Kk no more accelerator then gotcha. Admittedly when i did the cidar rinse i may not of left it in long enuf as i heard the longer it stays in the better it can "untangle" hair..Looks like a trip to my near by Natural Food store is in order..Does how often i wash it have any sort of effect on it? I didnt think so as i only wash it once a week but..

I had the exact same thing and it was a combination of my scalp getting used to less washing and washing without shampoo. Also, I scratched my head a lot and it caused more of it. I didn't realize this until my mom was visiting and stopped me everythign I went to scratch my head. The itchiness and the goo (the gel you describe) has almost gone.

I think some of it may have been from the sea salt spray I was using as I stopped that pretty early on in the dreading process.

I now use baking soda to wash and apple cider vinegar to rinse. Also, when I don't wash and just have a shower, I use hot water and really scrub my scalp. So far, no more goooooo!

Welcome to the forum btw! =)

    its probably scalp build up.
    dandruff is flaky.
if its soap residue, just rinse longer to make sure u get it all out.
but if it still is there, its probably scalp build up.

Thanks for the welcome and responses folks, :D

Went to the Natural Foods store got some rosemary, tea tree, and almond oils, so i think i am set..Was toying with the idea of using the almond oil as a stand alone moisturizer spray on. Any of you folks that use similar oils know a good dillution recipe? Then again like eagle said, find what works best..Im such a noob at this ha ha :D

sounds like dandruff, my scalp has always had a little more dandruff than necessary, and it looks exactly like how you've described it.
while we're on the topic, what is this baking soda shampoo recipe? sorry if it's already been posted a million times, I haven't been able to find it.

with the almond oil... 5 drops in 500mls (or was it a litre...eek!) it's one of the two anyway :) and you can either spray it on or just rinse your hair with it
