I've been looking everywhere for a wool hat and haven't found one yet. Today I came across a lady in the city who was hand making some great looking hats but sadly they were made from really thick cotton and not wool. Yeah so do you think a cotton hat would effect hair from locking up in anyway? Or any links to places which sell wool hats would be great.

cotton will probably help. it's just not as coarse as wool.

Can you ask her to make you one with wool? You could offer to go buy the wool and provide it for her so she doesn't have to go out of her way.

the difference bettwween cotton and wool is thye electron exchange that charges the hair with static it helps knot form then the static helps them cling while being compressed and tightening at least that seems to be why wool is better then cotton
when u pull a wool sweatter over yiuer head u can hear the electrons jumping to your hair and it gets all wilds after till theyre discharged

SE is actually right you guys, the wool is beter as it causes friction.
Smooth cotton or anything similar just makes the hair slip around.

wool is over rated. Really, do you really think you can tell the difference from wearing a wool tam to a cotton? That's so dumb. You'd need to get a magnifying glass to tell any difference. Ahhhhh

Well, I have a woolen tam, and yes. It helps my hair knot faster. When I get a few chunks of hair that just won't knot up, I put it on while I sleep for a few days and that gets them into line.

I have cotton hats and if I rub them against my hair I get a static charge. If I take a balloon to my head I can get a static charge...the same with a wool hat. Wool is not special in terms of static electricity. I get shocked all the damn time in the winter from where cotton socks, in a house with no carpet. NP is definitely right here. Static can be achieved with any conductive material when applying friction.

I would just find a hat and where it because you like it not because of what it does to your hair. The difference is minuscule. I wear a baseball cap for work everyday. That thing knots the shit out of my hair but that's not why I wear it.

Adam I can ship to australia its pretty cheap, just a few dollars and takes about 5 days to arrive. You can pretty much have any colour or yarn etc.....best pm me and talk :)

Wool is defo better, but I guess as usual everyone has got their own opinions and most ppl like to disagree with SE for the fun of it,even if he is right.

no bullshit. i used to do the same as you chemigals. i had a hat/tam internet business for about 3 years until i got tired of it and got a real job. ive used every material from hemp, wool, acrylic, cotton, etc.

wool most definately is not better for 'locking up' than cotton or any other material is. it may appear to work in the short term because you get bits of wool lint in your hair and it looks supa lokkedd up dood! but take a shower and see if it unravels. :cheers2:
