just made a fresh batch of granola bars.... inspriing me to find out what others take meat free when spending time in the great outdoors.
dried fruit, scroggin/trail mix...not sure what you'd call it. OOoo take some garlic/chili fried peas. they're an awesome source of salts and quite filling
You could bring tofu burger patties, tofu hot dog sausages, veggie-pate, hummus, peanut butter, cans of beans for salads or taco kits, etc. Add some fresh veggies, bread, buns for hamburgers and hot-dogs, granola bars, cereals, water, drinks and condiments and you're ready to go!
If you can find that sort of "instant" indian food (it comes in a sort of microwavable bag, I don't know where you live but in Canada and probably the States you can get them at Safeway in the ethnic section, or at smaller local ethnic grocers. Anyway, get the chickpea or chana masala or daal ones, some basmati rice and it is FREAKING AWESOME after a day in the bush! It doesn't need to be refrigerated and only needs a few minutes to heat up, so it's ultra-convenient and so filling, better than chili in my opinion
When I last went camping, I swore by hummus and pitta bread as a quite fulfilling snack And just about any nutty/oaty/fruity bar you can find in a wholefood shop. Sesame snaps are my favourite, and you can get them from most places!
