So Swine Flu has been reported in the town my parents live in. We were suppose to go up to Brighton on Friday night for planning but am reconsidering because Amelia is only 8 weeks old.

So question would you go if you had an 8 week old infant to a town where Swine Flu has been reported?

    Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit.

I'm about as far from a germaphobe with my son as you can get, but I wouldn't take him 2 inches in that direction.

No, just to be on the safe side, choose the option with less risks.

Yeah its weird I am not very germaphobic but the idea of Amelia getting sick makes me sick! I could give to shits if I get sick because her health is way more important to me but if I get sick... she risks getting sick!

This swine flu is about 90% hype, 10% legitimate threat. The media can have people believing almost anything. Do you know how many people have tuburculosis and die every year from it?

I would probably hesitate if I were you. I'm not so scared of getting it myself, because I have a pretty tough immune system, but babies don't have that luxury. You might wanna just postpone the trip to be safe.

I'd be the first one to go to an infected area that was close by just to say "See!!", but when it comes to babies, it is kind of different. They don't get a choice and shouldn't be put in even 10% harms way, ya know?

See, I'm the opposite. I try to get him sick. Nothing big, but little sniffles when I have 'em and stuff. I drink out of all the containers in my house all year round to help spread my disease. His immune system is going to come equipped with Tony Stark weapons and a Star Wars defense system.

8 weeks is also very young for a baby's immune system. I could swear I've heard that you're not even supposed to overexpose them to the public until they're 6 weeks, and two weeks between that to possibly expose them to something that's killing people...it just doesn't seem like a good risk to take at all. Now, I don't know, as I don't have children and am no parenting expert, but yeah, hype or not, I'd still not take the risk.

i would definately not take her. before i heard about the swine flu, i saw a kid with a mask on and wondered why.. then i watched the news. but to my knowledge there isnt any ppl reported to have it around here. it seems to be spreading fast though. kinda scary. especially bc ppl are freaking out so much.

    I agree 100%.

However, I think, just to play it safe, I'd still avoid taking my children where a case had been reported.

    Well said.

Yeah Amelia has had her first cold and I don't hesitate taking her in public because I don't want her to be a baby who is always sick because she was sheltered....

Matt I totally agree it is about hype. It's being talked about EVERYWHERE! I am fully aware that 36,000 people die a year from the flu alone but Amelia is not old enough to even get a regular flu shot and she is to young to take any medicine if she was to get sick.

i wouldn't take her out on the town, but your parents' house is probably safe.

then again, you can plan over the phone.

i'd kidnap 20 babies and take them directly to the hospital that the pig patients are staying in.
