Wasn't chloral hydrate the original "Mickey?" A bartender named Mickey Finn would put chloral hydrate in alcoholic drinks which would cause the recipient of the drink to pass out. Wikipedia says that chloral hydrate was abused and over-prescribed in the late 19th century and that its sedative effects were used for minor surgery procedures. It was formerly used in veterinary medicine as a general anesthetic and today chloral hydrate is used as an ingredient in the veterinary anesthetic Equithesin. Maybe that will help you make a decision. -NICU
