    LOL

Remember the chores you had to do as a kid/teen and now they're pretty much obsolete.

Big one that comes to my mind is washing the dishes, remember that? Nobody liked washing dishes and then slowly more and more people started buying dishwashers and now instead of washing the dishes sometimes your folks might ask you to just put the dishes in the dishwasher.

Course at my apartment I still wash dishes the old fasioned way because I don't let em pile on, I usually just wash the one or a few dishes I have and the glasses are simple and for forks and spoons if I have many I put dishwashing liquid in a mixing cup and let em soak in there.

But I mean family homes no almost all use dishwashers.

Another chore that pretty much doesn't exist anymore is babysitting, I mean pretty much anyway.

I never had to babysit for a job and I was an only child.

But now more and more parents just leave their 9,10 and 11 year olds hoem to watch television, nobody bothers hiring a babysitter anymore.

Hell I know plenty of 8 year olds that are left alone for like 4-5 hours.

    lol.

Cooking, it seems. I know a lot of people who literally barely ever cook. They eat out half the time and nuke something the rest. Doesn't make sense to me, since it's not hard at all to make fresh, healthy, much less $$ food.

One chore that I haven't done in years that I don't miss is cleaning the oven-phew! Most are self cleaning or continuous clean now.

As a kid, I had to get up and change the TV channel. I think that's why people used to have kids-to change the channel.

This is kind of reversed, meaning that it would be a chore for most of us now, but wasn't back then.

Getting up early on Saturdays to watch cartoons.

Someone would have to get off the couch and POUND on the television. Why? Because back then, televisions had vacuum tubes aplenty, and sometimes they wouldn't be seated well. Or the tuner- a mechanical tuner, you would have to jiggle it, or tap it to stop all the clutter. Hitting the TV actually was for a good and valid reason, and it worked. And then adjusting the antennae everytime you switched channels.

Not a chore, really, but one of those little annoyances that took time and energy, but which is unheard of today.

    Washing the milk bottles.

Most homes had a sewing machine to fix up old clothes. None of my friends have a sewing machine.

Much to my disgust, I DO still have to wash the dishes and that is for five of us. Usually I can't be bothered to do it every day....I look at it sitting there and think "I REALLY don't want to do that!"
As for babysitting, I would never entrust my kids to a teenager...I don't actually know any personally that I would trust. When I go out my Mum or Mother in law looks after my kids. :)
I did however, have a job some in the summer holiday when I was 13 looking after a couple of kids who were about 7 and 4..but I did'nt have to do alot, just sit there and watch tv with them, make sure they did'nt get up to any mischief.

I love to sew with my machine and by hand. Invaluable for repairs and alterations. Often I get clothes from the charity shop that need a small repair and whatever and the machine is very useful for that.

i hate dishwashers. & i`ve just learned recently there are quite a few sewing machines that can be converted to manual.
