I'm also having problems with my keyboard. It is the NS 97541L model. I own a Gateway MT6451 laptop, and since replacing the Vista that it came with for XP Pro, the keyboard isn't working properly. When I use the "Fn" button (function button) and then press one of the functions, (ex. screen brightness up/down) then the screen goes all black with a little box with white noise in it in the top corner for a few seconds. The black screen with white noise in the corner replaced the old thing that would come up which was a little blue box in the top corner that would say what the brightness level was at, and it wouldn't black out the screen- it would just be over top of it in the corner.

Also, I'm having problems with my numpad. Of course, I'm using a laptop without the numpad. Whenever I try to use the "Fn" (function) numpad, it doesn't work. It's not that the computer doesn't recognize that I'm holding the function button, but it doesn't recognize that I'm pressing a function button as well.

I tried downloading the chipset drivers (ATI 485M or something like that) and also the new video drivers (ATI Xpress 200M which I'm not sure are the correct drivers, someone please correct me if I'm wrong) and they don't do anything to fix the issue, it's the exact same as it was when I started.

PLEASE can someone help me AGAIN? This computer is ending up being a pain in the ass. I'm going to buy a PC lol.

it sounds like you didnt install all of the drivers after you installed XP. i have downgraded several gateway laptops from vista to xp, but have not experienced that sort of problem. here is the link to the gateway drivers page, make sure you have all of these installed http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/search.asp?param=mt6451&st=kw. to check and see if you are missing any drivers for some hardware, you can look in device manager (start > run > devmgmt.msc) if there are any items with yellow question marks then you are going to have to find a driver for them. also, one other good utility for identifying unknown hardware after formating a computer is unknown device identifier http://www.zhangduo.com/udi.html. hope this helps.

Well it says that I'm missing the drivers for "Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus", but I have no idea what that means. I tried installing the motherboard chipset drivers, but Gateway only offers the Vista drivers, not XP drivers.

Ugh, I hate laptops. What a cash grab.

You are definalty missing ddrivers. There are some websites out there (just Google 'drivers sca' with out the quotes and click the rirst result) that can scan your computer for missing drivers and will hook you up with the ones you need.
