I'll admit, I have no idea of who this woman is or how she is a "great woman"... But that quote sounds like exactly what is wrong with feminism. It's just malicious, adding nothing to any real discourse. The idea that either sex is inferior, an "incomplete" version of the other, or otherwise "deficient", is exactly what we are supposed to be fighting against. A man-hating woman is just as much of a bigot & sexist bastard as the misogynist she complains about.

And, since my profile doesn't mention it, yes, I am a woman.

Sorry- I guess I should have explained who Valerie Solanas was. While I do not know if she could be called a "great woman" ( though she may be in some circles- I have come across her works in many Feminist Theory books) I find this quote intriguing. She was legally insane, and even tried to kill Andy Warhol, so her work is often disregaurded. I definitely do not agree with the vast majority of what she says (this quote included) but I think it is always great to introduce people to different ideas. So, yes, she may not be"great woman" by many standards, but she brought a lot of attention to women's issues by using shock tactics such as this.

Ahem , Quotes from a real woman:

I think everyone here was in an illusion in that you all were posting quotes said by people who were nothing more than a bunch of imposters... :D

True Womanhood is about Strength that comes from with in... like that from Mother Teresa...

    1) Speak tenderly to them. Let there be kindness in your face, in your eyes, in your smile, in the warmth of your greeting. Always have a cheerful smile. Don't only give your care, but give your heart as well.

2)A sacrifice to be real must cost, must hurt, must empty ourselves. The fruit of silence is prayer, the fruit of prayer is faith, the fruit of faith is love, the fruit of love is service, the fruit of service is peace.

3)"I once picked up a woman from a garbage dump and she was burning with fever; she was in her last days and her only lament was: ‘My son did this to me.’ I begged her: You must forgive your son. In a moment of madness, when he was not himself, he did a thing he regrets. Be a mother to him, forgive him. It took me a long time to make her say: ‘I forgive my son.’ Just before she died in my arms, she was able to say that with a real forgiveness. She was not concerned that she was dying. The breaking of the heart was that her son did not want her. This is something you and I can understand."

4)"When once a chairman of a multinational company came to see me, to offer me a property in Bombay, he first asked: ‘Mother, how do you manage your budget?" I asked him who had sent him here. He replied: ‘I felt an urge inside me.’ I said: other people like you come to see me and say the same. It was clear God sent you, Mr. A, as He sends Mr. X, Mrs. Y, Miss Z, and they provide the material means we need for our work. The grace of God is what moved you. You are my budget. God sees to our needs, as Jesus promised. I accepted the property he gave and named it Asha Dan (Gift of Hope).

5)"Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin."
The above quotes are from Mother Teresa...
    Thank you!

Jedi, great posts. Thanks for reminding us that having a vagina doesn't necessarily make you a "great womyn." Mother Teresa should definitely be an inspiration to everyone, for she was truly a great womyn.

Dawnsky, I totally agree with your post about the feminist-man-haters... there's actually another thread kicking around the womyn's forum, you should check it out. I think it's called "Feminsim," it was about why feminism has such a bad name, and why some of us don't want to even be called feminists. Definitely worth a read.

Keep those quotes coming ladies, they're great!
