Well i have very little money, and i cannot afford to get them retwisted a couple times a month. I was wondering if i get my hair twisted once and just use dreadwax regularly they will eventually loc right? I dont care if it starts to look like messy dreads i just want them real bad!!:(

    noo!! don't use wax

just wash your hair and never comb it again!

or back comb it! or do the twist n rip method.

no money and no wax needed!!

Am I the only one finding it weird that (re-)twisting it yourself is apparently not being an option.... You know how to twist stuff yeah?

I think she meant when you take the dread and pull it through the root, or maybe Im just imagining things

    colour doesn't matter
unless you're blue... in which case you're dead. I'm assuming you're not dead though

wow, there is a serious lack of good responses here.
for african type hair you will have to twist ideally once a month. you can do it yourself, unless you have no time or are lazy. wash, oil, twist, clip, dry. otherwise you'll end up with country locks, which is fine. just keep em from webbing together. if you have questions and want an educated response on african-type hair, just PM me.

Isn't it okay for those who have african american hair to use wax or other type products like oil? I see they use it a lot to help their hair from drying or am I just thinking of something else? Vigilante this question is mostly directed to you :)

    This.

Not everyone is looking for messy random shit when they want dreadlocks. A lot of people with African textured hair are looking for more regular, uniform locks (think whoopi goldberg) which is achieved by twisting. All you people with zero experience with twisting/african textured hair really have no place answering this guys question because you have no frame of reference.

To the OP, What exactly are you looking for? Do you want uniform, even consistent locks, or more wild varied rasta kind of locks.

thanks this is the best answer but i could really care less if they are messy i think that looks cool, i was just talking to someone and they said if i try to start dreads then in order for them to loc they have to be retwisted at least 2 times a month. im starting to think that was a lie

**edited because i read that wrong**
    anyways,

Gretaoto, from what I've seen/done african-type hair (or scalp rather) tends to produce less oil, so there may be dryness issues if washing is too frequent etc. So, yes a lot of people with this hair type use oils and gels. I've only heard of really old school or misinformed people using wax on their locks.
