seriously. Theyre stupid expensive. I went to a crawfish festival this weekend. My bro-in-law is from louisiana, so he had to have crawfish. 15 bucks for a take out tray with a corn on the cob and a boiled potato. Highway robbery. I had never had crawfish before. the amount of meat on them is miniscule. The whole fucking place reeked of sea food, there were rivers of red colored water with crawfish heads and skeletons in the gutters. it was gross. thank goodness for other festival foods and a personal ice chest on wheels full of beer. When the mexicans started to fight, it was time to go. Its cool though, I got some much needed incense. Oh and I traded a joint for funnel cake and a sausage on a stick.
Next time I go to a food festival, I'm eating good. Thank you! Can't believe I never thought of that before.... OH, and I've never had craw fish, but generally if it doesn't weigh at least 8 oz, I'm not ordering it.
Hehe yeah, it was pretty nifty. It was a fat joint too. I thought they would have more meat. its a decent sized animal. i didnt know only the tail was edible. Never again will i buy crawfish at a festival. My bro-in-law said he could make better crawfish so im gonna try his. His gumbo is the best Ive ever had, so why not. Im gonna get him a crawfish boiler and the propane grill stand for christmas this year. it will secretly be for tamales too. or huge pots of seafood gumbo. :drool5:
I agree, they are over-priced but it's not only that little piece of meat you get.... you also get to suck all the fat, spices and juices out of the head. 2 for1! YUMMY!
Stop it with all the cajun food. Used to have a place around here called Yatz! that served gumbo and jumbilaya and stuff. Huge portions for a good price. Probably why they aren't around any more, and I don't know how to cook that shit.
I only like to suck on one kinda head, and that aint it. Yeah, cajun food is pretty cool. We have tons of cajun places round here. but why buy it when my bro can make it from scratch.
ugh. you got me with the rivers of red water with crawfish parts. nasty. i never much liked crawfish. i was always more of a spicy shrimp kinda girl. mmmmm yummy.
when I was a kid this family used to take us camping and we would catch the crawfish.. I didnt know then you could eat em. And this family was using us as slave to collect them.. (not really) .. But we would catch em and they would say leave em in the bucket and they would release them back in the water at night while we were sleeping, cause it wasnt safe for them to go back in at certain time.. They was eating em. LIES!!
Hearing good stuff about Cajun food in this thread. Except for the op. It's going to be cheaper in Louisiana 'cause it's more accessible. People buy it by the pound, that's a lot cheaper than per tray or plate. It is worth the effort, just maybe not that kind of money. A crawfish boil in Louisiana is all you can eat, they sure do gouge here.
i paid less and got more lobster. i think it was like 8-9 bucks...came with a whole lobster, corn on the cob, potato, corn bread, and a cookie crawfish has nothing on lobster
It really doesnt. lobster is soooooooooooooo goood.. especially fire seared with butter garlic sauce.
hilder what night did you go? You were in my back yard (olde town spring) that is. I almost went sat night but I had just got out of jail on fri so I decided to stay in and hit some skins
I went sunday afternoon. and as I already stated, i dont like to suck on the heads. I dont eat brains, thanks.
