Anyone a Satanist here? I'm not really a Satanist at all, nor do I worship him, but I consider him more as a symbol against all evil and all the other bullshit I'm against in my complicated mind. Plus I'm a metalhead so its basically part of the culture. I'm interested in getting more into the symbolic side of Satanism rather than the deity side which is basically a complete contradiction of Satanism.
Basically just a metaphor. I don't believe I'm going to Hell to chill with Satan when I die and I don't pray to him or any of that nonsense.
so what purpose does satan as a symbol serve in your life? what do you need it for/what do you do with it?
Don't bother. There's much more productive and helpful things to get 'into'. Also your mind probably isn't as complicated as you'd like to think.
It isn't really complicated, I just used it as a substitute word for what I really didn't feel like typing out. I guess I don't really need it, its just something that boosts my spirits and gives me something to do essentially. Basically the energy you get from listening to metal about Satan is what got me into it. Of course you can't go around slaughtering Christians and burning in Hell, but fuck, it sure is fun to go along with it at a show or something.
Satan is ego. The seperation of oneself from the whole. And there are plenty of hardcore bands that play on issues other than "satan". But the genre is generally negative and will not bring you peace although it may give you a release.
I'm not talking about hardcore, I'm talking about metal. Huge difference. And of course theres different lyrical topics. Theres nature, paganism, partying, society, the list goes on and on. Metal is negative to those who see it as negative. Nothing brings me more personal contemplation and thought than listening to a black metal or doom metal album, and nohting helps me vent my frustration or anger than listening to a thrash or death metal album. Are you trying to say that listening to metal over time will make me a bad person?
Check out real Satanism, it's actually somewhat close to what you are doing. Look up LaVey. By the way, Satanism has nothing to do witih being against evil =P
Im saying that your frustation is not unfounded, but dwelling on it is destructive. Because no matter how much you use this outlet, from personal experience, it only breeds more frustation. There are more progressive ways to deal with these frustations and it begins by analyzing the causes, and controlling the effects. In short, listen to what you want, because that is what moves you now. But perhaps a look into other forms of expression might lead to better results. Afterall, you are questioning your own tastes? Why is that? And do not let culture or society make your decisions for you.
depending on which satanists you speak to will get you different answers as to what a satanist truly believes in. many so called "satanists" are actually athiests who don't believe in any religion, but choose use the word as a metaphor. Why they do this? because they believe that christianity is an extremely hypocritical religion, so calling themselves satanists is the biggest "in your face" move they can pull on the hypocracy they see as "organized religion". not putting down athiests at all. I'm just explaining what a satanist told me once. many satanists don't live their lives any different as so-called christians. The difference between them is that they claim that the christian doesn't actually do what his religion tries to guide him to do, and live their lives as hypoctrites... Example: Jesus was a great man, and he was very humble. most of the stories in the Bible explain how you can't be greedy, love your enemies, love your neighbors, don't be a snob, don't let money and power get to you. Where on the other hand, a satanist will tell you to live your life, do what you gotta do, respect yourself, don't let others step all over you. If someone trespasses you, warn him. if he does it again, destroy him. now, when looking at the population, and how many people live their lives, from business-men, to regular workers, how do you think they live their lives? Do the masses use the humble approach or the powerhungry "be better than anyone, only the strong survive" type of approach? And these same people will walk in a church on a Sunday and claim to be great people following the word of god... Again, I'm not giving satinists credit, cause i think that anything to an extreme is no good, and to label yourself as a "satanist" when you know how it'll be percieved is pretty much using an extremist perspective, (also all the questionable stuff in the satanic bible) but, in some ways, I do think they got a point.
listening to metal won't make you bad, dude!!! I listen to the beatles one day, to Sigur ros on another, and right now I got Slayer on... It all depends on how you feel in that moment.
Of course I don't dwell on frustration, I tend to take walks or smoke some buddha or something when I'm angry. Music only acts as a supplement, and Satan is just something that goes along with it. If you are open minded enough you will see no evil through religions and "religions". Every man is his own world. I don't necessarily hate other religions. I don't agree with them, but I'm certainly willing to coexist with all as long as you don't push your beliefs on me. Maybe try to reason with me, I'm open to that. I could go on but I think I made my point.
yeah I love Sepultura and Soulfly, it's all about spirituality and anarchy. I find it positive and it's all about overthrowing society to bring life back to where it use to be, simple, non materialistic and one with nature.
can you please explain the relation between "metalheads" and satan...? i dont get it.. why would anyone worship the devil. the word has evil in it. to me, it seems it cant be possible people like to be evil. it doesnt make sense.
Theres a huge difference between the Christian version of Satan AKA the Theistic version, and the philosophical version I guess you would call it. The theistic version is more hypocritical than the Catholic church itself. That is the evil side I'd say. The philosophical version is just what it is, philosophy. It says nothing about doing any act of evil to others. Take me for example, I'm a lighthearted person, I've never fought anyone, and I consider myself to have good morals. I love everyone around me that dose good towards me or is neutral towards me. I guess you could basically call it Christianity with balls and without a god.
I'm not sure why people would worship Satan but about the relation between metalheads and the devil: you honestly never saw any trace of dark, evil and satanic lyrics in metal? Just check the classics. Number of the beast is a good one. It's generally all in good fun though, just like horror movies. There are a few retards of course who took it too seriously.
