Of course not MJB, I know women that use the word almost as a badge of honor some men too but we all know how that double standard goes. So I would have to agree with your statement.

I don't think anything has to be derogatory.

Bitch, slut, whore, cracker ass cracker.....

"I miss that little cracker ass cracker. He made me laugh."

"I miss that little bitch. She sure did liven the place up"

"That whore made me feel like no woman could ever do"

It's all about intent and context.....

also I think its a valid question....

I'm curious as to what people think, personally I don't really like the term and kind of lean towards it being more derogatory than not....

    thats just me though.

well there are sluts, and then there are sluts. the sluts go by different names though, you don't call them a slut like one girl when we talked about her, we would clap our hands - such as "the *clap* was blah blah blah"

    disagree.

A person, especially a woman, considered sexually promiscuous.
    Biest Much?

    A woman prostitute.
No, thats what you call a prostitute. Does sluts ask for money? no. Because their sluts.

How can it not be used derogatory? Even if you are "joking" calling someone a slut, they could still consider it offensive.
Past the point, are all women who sleep with plently of men for free, dirty? They might get checked, you never know.

I consider that word so derogatory, no getting around it. I've never heard a man say that without disrespect. He may have enjoyed sex with her, but he thinks she's trash, only worth putting his dick in and getting off on, nothing more than a masturbatory tool. That word is never used for a man, and even if it were if would never bear the same shame as it does for a woman. Absolute double standard here.

If a person thinks that promiscuity is a personal lifestyle choice, they might use the word slut in a neutral way, or as a compliment. If they think that sleeping around is "evil" and should not be allowed, then they are going to think that slut is a terrible insult, and will only use it in that way. And there are people who play along with the conservative viewpoint on sluts because they feel a great deal of social pressure, even though their honest opinion may be totally different.

These days definations aren't always accurate with how they are used in context.... faggot for example, it could mean a derogatory term or it could be a non derogatory term....

    eh, depends... on the context.

No. Because no matter how liberal your views on sex, the word slut is not a liberal word. It is a word that condemns, no matter what your personal opinion. I don't think that it has any other context besides a negative one.
