Hey everybody, Just a little history about my journey with dreadlocks so far. I have thick, African hair, and have baby locks for about three weeks. They are about 3-4 inches long. I use the brush rubbing method once a day, and the sea salt spray after every time i wash, which is once every four days. I cleanse with apple cider vinegar/baking soda. This week i noticed stray strands unraveling. Where once was "thick baby locks" is now just fro. It isn't happening all over, but in small patches. I have no idea what to attribute this to, though i do admit i did not use rubber bands to keep them in place. Any idea's for what could be wrong with my maintenance routine or suggestions would be much appreciated. One love.:cheers2:
It pretty much happens to all baby dreads. I think there is a point when you first start where fussing with them and trying to maintain them just does more damage than good. Just let them do their thing and it will all be fine in time.
this is just my opinion but i think coils are the best way to go for african hair and for maintence you just twist but for the way your hair is now with the brushing just fingerroll for maintence
Thanks for the feedback all. You mentioned use the finger rolling method to maintenance; i assume that just involves rubbing in a clockwise circle with the dread strand in between my fingers?
Update; I attempted this "finger rolling" method and was actually able to weave those loose strands together! Much similar to the palm rolling method just on tiny dreads..like the worlds smallest violin haha 4sho..anyways.. thanks
be patient, your type of hair will lock up perfectly like 3 times faster than straight hair. just give it time and stop trying to do things with them...kind of counter productive in the long run. dreads are not an instant thing, you gotta think in months and years. for an example when i started, i was like "alrite, in 2 years shit will probably start getting somewhere", and now its almost 2 years, and theyre maturing, with still alot of loose hairs and stuff everywhere
