I cant tell if my bowl is plastic or glass.

So I got my first bowl today, but it cant tell if its plastic or glass. I know it wouldn't make sence for someone to make plastic bowl but i just want to be sure.

Even thought the bowl is small, it seems lighter then it should be. It kind of feels like plastic, but plastic and glass feel similar. However, when i drop it, it sounds like glass dropping. It looks like glass also.

Is there any way to test plastic from glass?

Any help would be great.

 

Put a butane lighter to it...I wouldn't think plastic could stand up to it.

If it melts, take it back and demand a refund

 

might just be really light glass..be careful with it

 

Tap on it with something SOMEWHAT hard, or just tap it with your fingernail.

Compare it to something plastic or glass.

Don't fuckin shatter it just enough to make a light sound.

 

Put a lighter near it. If it starts to melt, then it's obviously is plastic

 

I put a match right to it and the part that i put it to turned black. It didnt seem to "melt", but im not sure.

edit- the black is gone now tho.

If it were plastic it would have a metal bowl
If it has a metal bowl then it is def not a glass pipe because that is simply a waste

 

its either a full glass pipe or a full plastic pipe. no metal.

alright guys i guess ill take your word for it. when i put it in flame it acctually smokes and then the glass turns black but suppose that normal

 

if your using a bic or a regular lighter yes because it leaves carbon residue behind

If you can't tell plastic from glass then you have problems.

Glass is glass, plastic is plastic. Nobody makes all-plastic pipes, so it's glass.

And yes, matches still leave carbon.

 

throw it against the wall and if it shatters, then it is glass, if it cracks then it is plastic

Be sure to throw it hard enough against the wall though, and preferably a brick wall to ensure shattering/cracking because if you need to start a thread asking how to differentiate plastic from glass, you need to be smoking from paper.

 

Errr... WTF, it should be fairly easy to tell... I don't think there exists a marijuana pipe made out of plastic... that would be so fucked up, plastic and fire normally don't mix. If you really cant tell by looking or feeling, than try getting a dinner knife, then try gently cutting. If its glass it will just slide, if its something like plastic in might start to cut in.

 

hmmm it makes scrathes in the pipe. im saying maybe some ass hole made a plastic pipe in order to gain more profit

I find it funny how he's just ignoring everyone saying it's clearly glass, which by the way, it is, yet he's following the instructions your giving him that are basically just things we should all know, like if you can cut glass with a knife.

 

Well have you tried holding a flame to it? That should make it clear. If the guy was trying to rip you off, he would use a really heat resistant plastic (since that would probably cost him more), so if you hold a flame to it for 15 seconds, you should see it starting to bubble, or look wet and mushy, that is if its plastic. If its glass there would likely be some black stuff build up on it.
