Tonight, it's kicking my ass sooner then what i thought... I've only smoked 2 and I'm buzzed. I'm just not the lush I used to be.
It depends on so many different factors. How strong is the beer? Do you have food in your stomach? Are you rested or tired? It takes a lot to get me drunk. When I first started drinking, three beers of average alcohol content would get me drunk. Now I can drink an entire six-pack of really strong (9% ABV) beer and not get drunk. With regular strength beer, I can drink a 12-pack over the course of one night and not get even remotely drunk. I have a pretty high tolerance when it comes to alcohol, and I don't even drink very often anymore. But I really don't drink to get "drunk" either.
It depends on the beer. If I'm drinking some Steel Reserve black label(8.1%abv), then it only takes two 24oz cans; three of them and I'm completely twisted for less than $4. lol
The beer here is not that great, better than the mass produced swill in America but nowhere near as good as the microbrews in America. I think it takes five to six 500/600 ML (I mix it up) bottles of 3.1% to do the trick.
Had anything good lately? Tonight I am nursing some "Hairy Eyeball" by Lagunitas Brewery in California. It's OK, but a little too sweet for my liking. It's a strong ale, but it reminds me a bit of a scotch ale, which I have never been very fond of. All in all it's not bad, but I probably wouldn't get it again. I just wanted to try something different and took a chance on something I've never had before.
3.1%? Wow, that's weak. (Not that you needed me to tell you that.) What time is it where you are in China right now, Carl? BTW, where in China are you?
yea i have...i had Matilda from Goose Island beer co that was bottled in 2007 and i have had Harpoon Leviathan. both were 4 packs, and i have 1 left of each. those are going to be saved for next year. i've started up a collection of beer that will be aged. i also have a Long trail brewmaster series coffee stout that will be going in with those 2 beers. the coffee stout was awesome. outside of those beers, i have another 10 or so different beers being aged haha...don't remember them all except for the 3 brooklyn black chocolate stouts. i was in a stout drinking kick for a while, but changing to some belgians and soon back to my very hoppy beers that i love
Depends on the beer & food. If I ate a good meal and am in an upbeat atmosphere it seems to take over a six pack. At home, I'm a much cheaper date.
The Harpoon Leviathan is a series of beer. I know there's an imperial IPA, a Belgian Quad, and I think one other (a porter, perhaps?). So far I've only had the imperial/double IPA and thought it was pretty good. The Long Trail coffee stout sounds nice. Southern Tier brewing in NY makes an excellent imperial coffee stout.
Oh yeah, Three Philosophers by Ommegang is some amazing stuff. I was fortunate enough to be able to take a tour of the Ommegang Brewery in Cooperstown last summer, as well as pick up a few bottles of their beer while I was there. Since then they have introduced several new beers. They are definitely one of my top five breweries. The brewery itself is modeled after the old Belgian farmhouse breweries and sits in the middle of a huge field on the banks of the Susquehanna River. It's a beautiful setting.
At one point I could drink 8-9 (w/ food in my tummy and in a fair amount of time) without getting drunk. I remember drinking 14 beers in one night when I was 20. But now, I'm really drunk at the end of 4 beers. It's sad.
Hahah.... Poor man's fix. There are far better beers that are a lot stronger than Steel Reserve. Some Belgian and German beers go up to 14% ABV. The strongest beer in the world is 26% ABV.
