i thought of that. but i really want to mess them up. how do i make the holes at the knees? do i just slash/cut them or like wear them and scrape my knees on concrete until they tear? lol
A great way to make bellbottoms is to cut along the outside seam of your jeans and sew a triangle of fabric in the gap. A lot of the crafty mamas around here are great at that and could probably tell you exactly how to do it.
The best thing to do is use a razorblade and kind of "scrape" holes into them. If you just cut a slash with a scissor, the cut will look unnatural and... well.. pretty bad. heh. You can use sandpaper to wear in some holes on your jeans, too. Try using sandpaper around the holes you "scrape" in your jeans with the razorblade to soften the edges of your holes even more. Patches and embroidery look awesome. I have a pair of jeans my mom wore all the time in the 70's that are completely personalized and patched and embroidered with her unique style. One of my favorite things about those pants is the little mouse head she made sticking out of the pocket... let me take some pictures for you so you can see. It's awesome! Try looking on craftster.org in their clothing forum. they might have some tips if you search.
oh thats a great idea! thank you so much guys! I would make them bellbottoms but they are already kind of baggy and widelegged. but definitely take pics if you want, pearl. id love as many ideas as you can offer/show.
Sorry I posted so many, haha. Hopefully they make you feel a little inspired, though! I have done a few pants like this and I can tell you for a fact it is fun! enjoy!
aww i love the little ladybug! def. not too many pics. that looks so awesome. thanks for the input man.
Yup! She had to freehand it all back then- my father and her owned a nursery, lived off the land and lived pretty 'poor' as far as money went- so she had to patch up all the rips with scraps and embroidery I think it's cool that she learned such a pretty thing out of necessity.
were your parents hippies? they sound like real cool people. i would love to do embroidery. i tried tearing by scraping with an exacto knife. lol it looks odd to me but its because the jeans are new, i have a lot of work to do on them. might even sleep in them lol
They definitely had and still have the hippie spirit in them It was quite the blessing to grow up with such accepting parents who could offer knowledge about so many things... including embroidery! Haha! After I work on distressing jeans, I wash them as vigorously as possible, preferably in a washing machine, then machine dry them. That should make the tears look a bit more natural. Of course, wearing them around is good too! Good luck, I hope your jeans come out well!
yeah, my family was like that too. and thanks! ill post pics after a while if i can make them just right
The best way - just wear them and wait. Any time I go to a music festival, I usually always camp and wear the same jeans the entire time. That's a good way to get them nice and worn in. You can go in with a brand new pair of stiff jeans and leave with torn, sun bleached vintage looking rags (they are also kind of like scrapbooks. Each rip and stain is a memory of something).
thats true. probably the best plan because i just went to war with the jeans and they are ruined. and not in the good way. lol i need another pair now.
Yep. Strart a material bag with your ruined jeans... I have a lot of spare material for when I need to patch my clothes... I haven't actually bought clothes in years! Just wear and mend when the need calls... plus you could probably turn what's left of your pants into a skirt, depending on the damage done...
