There is a severe bill in the house of representitives that is soon to hit the floor April 23 that has the potention to ban all non-native animals in the US from import, sale, crossing state lines, possession. It can also destroy the pet trade economy, not only breeding but the secondary sales of foods, cages and other devices that go along with exotic pets. Please contact your house rep and tell them NO HR669. http://www.nohr669.com (easiest way to act) http://scienceblogs.com/grrlscientist/2009/04/hr669_nonnative_wildlife_invas.php This is a serious problem. Should this bill pass, anyone else with non-native lizards, reptiles, birds, mammals, or fish would not be able to sell, give away or move out of state with my pets. This includes DOGS too, Want a German Shepard? Can't cause it is not Native, Want a Collie? Can't have one....only dog allowed would be Coyotes, and they are considered wild so there is already a law for that....... Please repost everywhere.. to your facebook, myspace, everywhere, even your momma!
How ridiculous... Nature is far beyond laws... Absurd and pointless, whoever introduced the bill is clearly a very ignorant person and should be exposed as such.
A lot of animals get treated horribly while being shipped here. This is probably a measure to discontinue support for companies that treat them poorly in shipping. I don't think this will stop you from having your German Shepard - there are plenty of German Shepards that were born here and I'd imagine there are plenty of American breeders too.
Oh, for petes sake. How does this stuff get started? First the organic food thing and now this? C'mon folks ... be a little more discerning in what you fall for.
The bill does exist; http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=h111-669 But if you read through it, you will see that the OP hasn't.
