Hi, I know we are all talking about starting a new hippie age but why do we all sit here and talk why don't people start to organnise things e.g. protests, sit-ins etc. So come on people start organising stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice try. Nobody can up and start such things. Revolutions historically speaking follow an age old pattern. When the rich man is full, the poor man starves. When the poor man starves, the rich man dies. The times akin to what you speak of is close. I hope you're ready.
What do you mean when you say “New Revolution”? Do you mean new in the sense of another of the old revolutions or new in the sense of different from the old ones? And what are you interested in revolutionizing?
No what i mean is that all these people are saying that the time is right for the hippies to come and promote peace again etc and that is what i mean.
Here in Detroit the Hippie community has all sorts of stuff going on. We need it to survive in such a city. Nugent may call Detoit a shi---le, but there's a spirit here he can't recognize that keeps it going. Sit ins may not be the anwer. Growing your own food and getting your power supply off the grid would do more to change things than any sign marching and protesting.
we've been quiet for to long. it used to be we were covered on the media. we're not getting ANYWHERE or any ATTENTION! we need to show them that we are still kickin! this country has fallen to the pits of capitolism..... isnt that what we're all against here! What happened to the spirit, what happened to the determination?! What happened with questioning Big Brother! Where did all the Flower Children GO??!!!! i know your out there reading this post! i know just like ashblossom said YOUR TALKING BUT NOT ACTING! we need to teach the world something again! it just takes a couple of people! im in i assume ashblossom is (obviosly) who else is.... we need to act NOW before its to late! its time.....
If you wish to "take it to the streets" please do. As for most of us Old Hippies, been there done that and we've moved on. Most of us Old Hippies are trying a new type of revolution and not just new "old" type of revolution. The old revolutions tried to force change on people from the outside but the new revolution starts on the inside so people end up changing from the inside out. So as the song says; take a look at yourself and make a change.
The hippie culture and their actions got media attention for a large part back then because it was something new. They won't get that same amount of attention again if there's not something new to it. The first question of course about this new revolution is not how, but why there should be one. I mean, if it's for a new hippie movement you're on the wrong track. A hippie movement may serve a new revolution, but not the other way around.
You seem to be implying that hippies want or need media attention. Why would that be the case? Do you feel that the world is just fine the way it is? Most hippies have always thought the world could use a little changing but a new hippie movement, what's wrong with the old one, it seems to be doing just fine.
the only activism i'm really interested in being active in is an effort to save our planet from our greed driven species. i used to envision the Rainbow Gatherings morphing into huge camp-ins held in endangered forests, 10s of thousands of hippies just saying NO! to the wanton destruction of Nature's beauty, the gathering sites determined by the need to save a particular piece of wilderness instead of which region's turn it was that year. that whole Warrior of the Rainbow "prophesy" routine really had me going for awhile. i traveled to gatherings as if on a holy pilgrimage and watched for signs of prophesy fulfillment. hehehe! talk about an idealist. i really believed in that silly stuff. i finally realized that it will never happen and in coming to that realization i lost interest in Rainbow Gatherings. the Rainbow Gatherings were a fun and interesting experience but Rainbow never will be anything more than an annual hippy convention, a cutesy nostalgic meander down "What Could Have Been" Lane. if something like Rainbow Gatherings began to happen for the true and useful purpose of saving precious pieces of wilderness and generally protesting the ruination of our beloved planet i'd be there with bells on and with flowers in my hair.
It was a response to this post: I was pointing out that it will never get the same amount of media attention. Not implying hippies want that, although it seems handy if you want to change the world. But you would have to come up with something new and intriguing to gain the same kind of media attention. Hippie sit ins may be fun and demonstrations and peace marches are always good but it will not have the same kind of impact anymore. I'm not saying some things shouldn't be changed but I don't think we need a revolution. Also, I think if we want to change the world it doesn't depends on a new hippie movement. I think most people wanting a new hippie movement rather have one for the good vibes and gatherings and stuff, which sounds not bad to me but I don't see what a revolution has to do with it.
oh what i can. signing petitions, calling and emailing government officials, donating to eco orgs when i can afford to, doing the recycling thing, growing my garden organic, working on getting off the utility grid, rehabbing injured and orphan wild critters. stuff like that. i must admit that my efforts seem rather small and pathetic but there's only so much one can do alone.
From my point of view most of what you're doing is the new revolution. The old revolutions wanted to make big changes by forcing change on others but the new revolution is about making the world a better place through understanding that the world changes for the better every time one individual changes for the better. Remember the old addage; a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
I think the answer being sought here is Communism. Everyone should be the same, except the government of course.
