so i did mine myself, back combing, no wax.. i'm so excited to see how they are going to come out. so here are the first pics! before i started my first dread baby!! four babies YAY ALL DONE!!
I'd take the elastic bands out, like now. They look pretty tight like they are pulling at your scalp. That will restict movement not alowing them to dread.
your hair looks good for dreading, as you got some curls to help you along. its a bit short tough, but i think you will be allright. will probably see it unraveling quite a bit because of your short hair, but it will dread back up soon. dont be tampted by the wax, and dont get discouraged. be patient looks like some fat babies. you got the sideshow bob look going there can always wear a hat to keep them down the first few days. i think it is good to wait as long as possible before your first wash btw, you should get those rubberbands out within the first couple of days. many people will tell you to get them out right away. its a matter of judgement. i see no problem in keeping them there for a day or two, but thats just me. but dont keep them in for too long, or you will have a nightmare geting them out later. palmrolling might prevent the unraveling a bit. but they will eventually want to lock up in their own way, and that isnt always the way you backcombed them good luck, and enjoy your jurney! looking forward to see how it works out. and try to keep this yournal, as it is fun to look back on later. in a year from now you will think: man i look stupid back then, but look at me now!!! =P
lol. i like my sideshow bob look! but i am going with a hat for a bit. i have to wear one for work anyway. i'm really looking forward to the journey. thanks for all the support and advice!! =P
check out smelly d's dready timeline. She also backcombed, no wax and has great results. looking good!
:cheers2: woooooooooooooooooooooooooo! they are indeed lookin good! and yessm, take out the bandies, and wear a hat, and looove them =D
Good luck on your journey!!! They look like you got them backcombed really tight, much needed for the shot hair.
those are gonna be some phatties! take out the bands and make sure you seperate any webbing (it will be pretty bad for the first month or so) once a day.
i took out the bands last night, they are staying locked pretty well. i wore my hat today and went to work. i think everyone is really intrigued to see how this comes out. i still have some regular hair, cause the bottom was WAY to short to start. but it still looks cool and i really love my little babies! you guys are great!
Nice, so you decided after all to become another Pacific Northwest Dready.... I wish you well on the beginning of a wonderful journey mosschild..eace:
omg itch!!! so on day 4 now.. and my scalp itches!!!! i keep feeling the need to wash.. but not sure if i should yet, but the babies are feeling a little tighter each day. there are a couple of loose ones, i think i might loose and have to redo. but thats part of this whole thing.. what do you think is the best poking thing to itch my head with? its killing me!!
you don't necessarily need to wash. If you have an itchy scalp just make a tea tree oil and water spray, and spray it where its irritated.
yeah that works for me really well, I added some rosemary oil to tea tree and water and it calms the itchies right away.
day 5!! so today was my first wash, omg it feels nice! i'm usin jason tea trea shampoo. its not spicifically for dreads but i used it before i started just to get a feel for it and it leaves my hair really clean feeling, not residue. a friend of mine says that they sell dr bronners at pcc and fred meyer in this area but i couldn't find it at pcc and i haven't had a chance to check fred meyer's. don't know why but i don't shop there very often. ~washing was harder than i realized it to be.. but they look way cool all wet and they're laying out on my head rather than stuck back cause of my hat. *I FEEL CUTE*
