I was just wondering if anyone here finds themselves paying extra close attention to their appearance and image now that they have locks (in comparison to non-locked hair). For instance, I take extra care in ironing my clothes more now. I make sure I smell extra yummy, and that I don't look like a bum.

Yeah, I always make sure my hair smells good and I'm presentable when I go out where before I would just throw my hair up into a ponytail and go.

No, I don't at all. I do the exact same thing I do always. No make up, no perfumes, no ironing. =)

nah not at all i hardly have any shirts that arent ripped and just wear jeans and really take no effort to look good
i trim my beard by accidently catching it on fire
i cant remember the last time i looked in a mirror
its been so long i dont even know where therews 1 to look into..
and when im out uin the woods ive spent weeks with my dreads caked in so much mud they were 3 times as thick
    (and heavy)
but if i stink and have access to oils i do use em

I care about my appareance a load less.. well my head bit anyway ^^ I never iron my clothes, no point imo xD with normal hair I was so concious of how it looked, cus if it wasnt right it would always look shit. But now with dreads I know they always look good, or if I'm having a bad dread day I know they are allowed to look rubbish and I can just shove them up in a ponytail :)

Ha Dragonvine I was the same way, my hair never looked good before dreads, because it was cut funny and had funky waves and random bits sticking out- I was so glad to get dreads!

i dont care about how i look or what i wear.
but i do care if im clean or not.
thats just disgusting to have mud caked in ur dreads so they are 3 times as thick.
u can get worms from doing crap like that.
    cleanliness > parasites.

hmmmm Im always looked like a bum, people call me a bum I dont mind being a bum I like drifting. It went both ways with me, whilst I can stand dirtier now cause I used to realze how dirty I was on how my hair felt and now I cant really feel if its tangled anymore than usual.... I pay more attention to ummm setting up my dread inside a hat or bandana or so so they look nice making me spend more time in front of the mirror before as long as hair was not in face it was all good I still wonder how come I never got dreads before considering Im a stranger to the hairbrush but its probably cause I would always fiddle with my hair obsessively

I only put forth an effort to look human when Im going out for a night on the town. The people I work with are cool with me looking pretty homely....my Monday - Friday uniform is jeans and a t shirt with my hair pulled back. But I do shower daily and love yummy smelling lotions and oils.

I like to have fun with clothes, I mean you have to wear them everyday so you might as well:)I don't own an iron though-always found them a bit pointless. I haven't changed my image at all though, I don't put on smelly stuff/shower more. If people wanna think that dreadheads don't wash/shower than they can think that. I'm not going to walk around with a bath chain as a necklace to steer people into the right way of thinking..

for me, part of having dreads is letting people know i dont care what they think.

i used to only iron my work uniform, but now it's everything. i feel like i should make the effort to look well maintained since there is such a stigma attached to locks. i never care what people think, i'm really doing it for the good of all dreadies. just to show em we're not all dirty hippies. not that i don't love dirty hippies. :D and don't hate on my ironing skills:p
