Although they didnt do the hard edged sound,I always liked Chicago and Blood Sweat and Tears, the horn arrangements in Chicago, and Terry's guitar work was great. David Clayton Thomas's gritty soulful voice in B.S and T Has no equal..what say you?

Being a former guitar player, guitars were priorty one,but as time went on,i also got into how songs were put together not just the sum of the parts.for example i love carlos's guitar playing.but i also love the whole background arrangements

Others not mentioned? Let me tink. Right now I am listenin to the Flyin Ryan Brothers, a band from Chicago which gives great credence to Wishbone Ash, as the Bros are a twin lead band. Or how about a band from Buffalo, Ny. known as Gamalon? Great prog rock, sounding a lot like Kansas at times. Then again, there is another band from NY who started back in the late 70's called Starz featuring Richie Ranno on guitar. Thats just a few, and if you havent heard any of them but would like to, just go to Rhapsody.com. You can get 25 free songs a month there, and all 3 bands I have listed are there, as Rhapsody has a very extensive collection of stuff. And that is why I also recommend the Freecorder program, so you can record everything you listen to. Oooops, but I am getting of track now.

HEY, I was just scrolling over my Windows Media Player wondering what to play next, as I have my over 2000 cd's stored there, and 2 bands came to me for this thread. And if you are from the midwest, you may appreciate this more. First a band that more know about than the second, and that is a band called Shooting Star. Great band of the 70's to 90's. Gary West was the leader of that band. Now, his brother Ron West had his own band, which only released 2 albums in the late 70's, and they were called Missouri. From what I understand, there is a FM rock station in Kansas City that has played Missouri's best song, entitled Movin On, once a day ever since it came out over 30 years ago, but I cant confirm this. Great song though. I actually like Missouri better than Shooting Star, but SS did have some great songs such as Last Chance, Tonight, You Got What I need, etc.

Do you remember Lighthouse from Canada? They had morns and an electric violin and their big record was 'One Fine Morning.' Going a bit more obscure there was a group called
Dreams with the Brecker Brothers on horns and Billy Cobham on drums and there was also a group called Myrth. I saw BS&T in their prime and they were very tight live which was more than I could say for Chicago who i loved on record but they were a bit sloppy. Remember, I'm not talking about today's formation of Chicago, just a shell of the original group. Oh, I almost forgot, did you ever see Cold Blood? They were awesome with Lydia Pense, a great blue eyed soul blues belter and Tower of Power like horns.

I fear rock in those times was becoming too pompous for my wilder ears.......that's why punk took over at a certain point :)
