You guys use it? One of the reasons I was stoked about getting a mac is so that I could play with GrageBand. I've made a couple songs in my lifetime, but when I've tried to make one now, I don't know how to! I'm confused. So I'm going to try it now. I hate tutorials and stuff for the most part. Any good songs to share?
Hmm, I have messed around with pro-tools a bit, always wanted to record my own music. I am going to be buying a Mac later this year, and probably an audio interface.
All I needed was to find the loops menu. Spent about an hour making a song. Not yet done though. Post 1000!
loops will limit you try software instruments, qwerty keys, and quantitizing(look it up) your midi data, if you actually want to create your own music and you should be set, it will take you all of 5 mins to learn, and you will be able to express what is in your head, instead of what everybody else has for the out of the box loops in garageband. that is just lacking in creativity man. granted you control the arrangement, but yea, no. sorry not trying to be a dick, but it will be for the best, especially if you are passionate about doing this and advancing your musical quest. garageband is pretty sweet, great for learning the fundamentals, even if the preset sounds are cheesy. but yea, download some VST synths and you are set. hit me up with any questions any time, i love to help people, and this is something i know about. but yea if you don't want help, don't worry about it, i don't get offended.
Try not to loop things. It can really make things more difficult, if one note is off by the slightest bit it will throw the next thing off, and then the next thing will be off time, and then the next thing will. And before you know it your song is completley out of timing and it's turned into a pile of shit. It's happened to me many times before. Thats why I record in pieces then edit it together. It doesn't sound copy and pasted at all if you know how to do it right. I always try to do the whole song perfectly on the first take though, it never works lol.
When I write music, I take my Guitar or keyboard and play.....Then If I have something good Il either right it down and jam it with friends or Right it down on Guitar pro 5 and make drum bass and anything that comes to mind arrangement. Gp5 is a must.
yeah that doesn't happen if you quantitize. locks up to the beats, lock your clip up to the bar, and its equal, as long as you recorded to the metronome.
nah, you weren't being a dick. this is especially why I posted this thread. Thanks for the tips and offers!
honestly, i just use GB to record stuff as we're writing it, use Nuendo for more in-depth recording. have you tried fruity loops? my boyfriend uses it and rather likes it. what kind of music do you do?
http://www.korgnano.com/ ^$50 bucks, and a lot of fun. I have the keyboard, and it's not perfect (one key has response issues). for the price, it can't be beat. but with one of these and garageband, you can really make decent music. it's simple, but if you just want to make music, and aren't big on professional sounding stuff just yet, pick up a cheap usb midi keyboard. even check craigslist, in my area, peope are selling 60 key midis for nothing. a midi keyboard will be your best friend if you like garageband. and if you ever get tired, you can sell the keyboard and grab something more complex. I just sold my boss dr-3 and borrowed some money for a microKorg.
My foot tapping on the ground is the only metronome I need Seriously, I think my timing may be like %99.9 accurate.
agreed, GP5 is so handy :cheers2: i dick around on guitar pro all the time, and if i make something that i think is alright i try to record it using garageband. but since i don't have access to any instrument i want i just record my drum kit for any drum sections i have and use my keyboard's effects in place of any other instrument i want to use.
Yeah I've heard of fruity loops actually. My sister's bf use(s,d) it. I don't do any sort of music, I've just been playing around with a kind of you know, trance or bass kind of stuff.
if you are editing your song after recording it will make things much easier if you are locked into the grid. not doubting your natural sense of time. you should try it out see if it helps.
I usualy mess around my guitar or keyboard and when I have a good melody or chord progression whatever, I right it down on Gp5 and work out some instrument. You can do prety much evrything with it. Gp5 is my best friend ever since I compose shits.
