My progressive big band (big band by instrumentation but not by sound), have a couple of gigs in London coming up. The first is rather soon, and it's at the Bull's Head, Barnes on Sunday 19th. There's a facebook event page for it here: http://www.************/event.php?eid=64047278861&ref=nf We're also playing at the Scoop (a gloriously located open air Greek-style theatre on the South Bank next to Tower Bridge), on the 16th July. There's a facebook event page for that one as well: http://www.************/event.php?eid=135657185313 The music we play is jazz, but not your typical sinatra or glenn miller repertoire. It's original stuff composed and arranged by members of the band, including myself. Some of it's pretty straight forward funk/pop/latin influenced music. Some of it's a bit less orthodx, and some of it is just plain weird (and if there are those among you who fit the hippy stereotype of enjoying taking mind-altering substances in order to confuse yourselves with weird music at concerts, then this is just the sort of weird music for you). There are tracks from our album on the myspace page http://uk.myspace.com/theljc for those of you who want to check it out before hand. Oh and the Scoop gig is free entry so you can just turn up at any point during the gig (and leave at any point as well - hopefully in possession with a copy of our CD). Hope to see some of you there. Incidentally the reason I'm posting this in this section rather than a music-related one is because this is the section that I visit most, and where the people I actually know from here hang out (if they still do).
Nice to see another musician around here... I'm in a prog rock/funk/blues band with a couple of my friends and we have our first gig next Friday. I'm hoping to rock it with bare feet, with a sensitive bypass switch on my wah pedal as an excuse.
